I have a janitrol system thats about 10 or so years old. I had it serviced back in the summer and it was doing okay heating this winter until now. It runs all the time but doesn't seem to be heating. Had it set to 70 last night and it never got higher than 60. I did notice that the outside fan unit was like frosted all over?? Is this an easy fix? Something I can do myself? Parts? Cost?

I thank you in advance for your help.

no, nothing easy for a DIYer, it could take you weeks to figure it out, did you have a lot of snow or freezing rain it just may have gotten overwhelmed, do you here it go into defrost?

We offer no DIY here so don't ask, we will help you in a jam but not like you are thinking.

It is normal for heat pump outdoor units to frost in winter, they should defrost by them selves every 1.5 hours of run time. The defrost circuit is the most complicated part of the unit, don't screw with it. If it is not working, call a pro.

It is normal to have a lower temperature rise at the indoor unit when it is cold outside. At 15 degrees outside, 13 degrees rise is normal, so if your house is 70 degrees inside, supply air at the indoor unit will be about 83 degrees. Still more efficient than strips alone.

At 65 degrees outside, the temperature rise at the indoor unit is more like 33 degrees.

Read the site rules. No DIY.

It sounds pretty normal for a heat pump when it is this cold outside.
