Looking for a manufacture of an Oil Fired RTU, for a VAV System. Present unit is 40 Ton 70 Kw electric heat, with economizers, Vortex on supply fan. I told boss problems I've had with old Lennox Oil fired RTUs, the mods that will have to be made to present oil supply, and what a PITA they are to work on.

Brings back memories of the old Sizzler we used to work at, to oil fired RTUs on the roof, I lived on that roof 1/2 the winter, nothing but problems. One time the primary control got stuck on, and the unit never fired, it ran all night, filled the heat ex with oil and leaked into the dining room ceiling, what a mess.

We had something similiar happen, one of the electrodes cracked and shorted. The flame detector saw the flash and kept the burner running. Pumped the heat exchanger full, till the oil extingushed the arc. We never figured out why it didn't go up like a bomb. Soaked the built up roof, and leaked down stairs.

I didnt think you were allowed to put oil on rooftops anymore, but if i were looking for something like that, I would call my local mammoth rep, those boys make some crazy stuff

Ok, I thought that I had seen a lot in this trade, but I have never, ever, seen or heard of an oil fired RTU. I'm glad those are long gone. You guys taught me something today.

We had some old old old Mammoth units up in my parts that was oil fired equipment. We demoed them approx 3-4 yrs ago and these pigs had some serious weight behind them. Used to take care of an industrial park which only had oil but changed to natural gas.

Have worked on some buildings that no gas within a mile LP cost to high. Oil was only way. Service contract needed for the upkeep. With the new burners and electronic controls most new units need just to be looked at' Maybe you could look at heat pumps with electric in each VAV
