View Full Version : Trane vs York Oil Furnace

I am down to a final choice on an oil hot air furnace. Price is not an issue (Both bids are almost identical) and both bidders are well qualified local dealers. No issues with anything but the furnace itself. Both of them seem to fit the need.

York P3HMX20F12001

Any comments on relative merits, etc of either or both would be appreciated so I can sign a contract.

Pick the contractor you like the most.

Tranes are made by ThermoPride which is good cuz they're the best oil but they are far from a ThermoPride furnace. Should be reliable however.

Yorks are made by Olsen which is another good line. Should be equal in quality to the Trane.

So then you better take karsthuntr's advice!

I would ask about a Thermopride and get a Riello burner.

I have to HIGHLY disagree about your assessment of Hallmark.

Best oil furnace there is, hands down, is a Thermopride.

The choice between the York or Trane is a toss-up. Go by price I suppose. Do choose the furnace with a Beckett or Carlin burner however. Riello is OK too, just more difficult to find a qualified tech to have work on it (at least in my neck of the woods).

some people like Ford and some like Chevy. Personally I think Thermopride is overpriced and much more difficult to clean & service. ;) BTW Carlin is the better choice for the burner.

Thanks to all.

Based on your inputs, as well as other sources, I worked on one of the contractors and upgraded to a Thermo-Pride. Surprisingly, the price increase wasn't as bad as I feared, and I managed to stay on budget.

Best part is, in the long run when the other furnaces you originally listed are burnt out the 'Pride is still going strong. So isn't Thermopride really the least expensive then?
