View Full Version : What a Night

Broke a bunch of the cardinal rules tonite.

Was sitting on the puter and the front door creeks open and then a knock. Originally I thought it was my dad because he has a habit of doing that. Check the door and theres a guy standing there, about my size, a little more muscular build. He says hes just been in a wreck, hes kinda dirty and shaking so I make the wife get off the phone. Go out on the porch(its cold) and hes talking to me but nothing majorly telling. Hes screwing around with a cell phone, saying the minutes are out I asked him a few times if hes ok. He makes the comment about being cold and if he could come in, I say he can step in and I try to keep him at bay in case he pulls anything. Its at this point he leans against the wall and goes "man I'm trippin", I'm thinking this might be some slang about the wreck and he proceeds to sit on the couch next to the door.

I tell him he needs to make his call about the wreck and go outside. Thats when he tells me there is no wreck. Sharee(my wife) is standing in the kitchen and I start motioning her so she can call my dad next door, yet she doesnt understand me. The guy then gets up and starts moving towards the center of the house(close to the kitchen), I get between him and her and to block access. I had no readily available weapons in my living room. I tell him to leave and he says if he leaves some guys are going to beat me up and refuses. I then call my dad next door and tell him to get over here, I get my oldest to call again as my dad comes in the house, he doesnt see the guy sitting on the couch. Hes like whats going on and I said this guy wont leave, my dad then tells him you have 5 seconds, the guy start saying something and my dad says 5, he says something else and my dad sees 4, by this time the guy is at the door. He turns to say something and my dad says 3-the guy goes outside. We call the cops, stay with the guy til they show. My dad goes to his house and puts his pistol in his pocket. The cops show and they end up taking the guy next door, he gets his stuff and leaves.

I found out tonite that I'm a good person and a good guy, I've always tried to help people. Now thanks to this aholed I cant ever help another person that shows up at my front door and that really sucks.

I only have a shotgun in the house and I keep the ammo in a seperate place because of the kids(even though they are 17 and 15) so it looks like I'll probably be spending some money on a pistol now.

Besides this where is the best place to put one if I get it? In my nightstand wont help me, in the kitchen cabinets wont help if someone breaks through the window.

Tonite has really sucked but thankfully it wasnt worse than it was.

weird. if he had just said he was from the future and was here to save you then it'd be just like a back to the future movie.

did he ever say what he wanted? was he trying to rob you or something?

I keep one on every level. Should have never let him in your home, I dont care how injured he might have been. Dont even open the door...tell them to have a seat and you will call the cops for them.
Heck, I carry a gun most of the time and would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Never ever ever ever let a stranger in your house. Ever.

Teach the wife to call 911 and go get the pistol while you keep an eyeball on him, on the porch.

I am glad that no one got hurt, you live and you learn.

No, no clue I think he may have been genuinely scared-more to the story-come to find out his stuff was at his ex's place across the street, thats supposed to be vacant that he went to get and I think her and a guy was gonna jump him-very short version dont want this thread to be 2 posts on a page from me for a page.

My opinion, shotgun. Pump & spray, pump & spray baby.

Why not teach the young ones how to shoot & respect that weapon ?

Scary situation to be in. Especially with no available weaponry.

They have both shot pistols at the range, it just seems kids dont have the respect we had when we were there age. Of course as this thread shows I have and can be wrong wrangler.

If your worried about your kids around guns teach them firearms safety now. I know times had changed but I was taught before I was 10.

The best place for a handgun is on you. When I'm home I carry a pistol until I change for bed. It's more for the four legged type around here but you never know.

If you want it to be secured and still quick to get you might have to spend money on a fingerprint safe or more then one and more then one pistol depending on your layout.

Glad you and yours came out alright. It could have went very bad.

I want to qualify this is my opinion:

Having protection is a good thing, however:

Using a firearm on a person is called 'deadly force'. Using deadly force should be the LAST thing one does. Literally ANY way to defuse a situation is better.

On the other hand: I have more than one handgun and know how to use them (professional training). Also, and this is critically important: If one even discharges a weapon, even only in the ground, there will be legal issues. A wise thing to do is learn the laws of your area (state, county, city, etc) and have the name and phone # of an attorney that specializes in self defense with a deadly weapon (using deadly force) already planned.

In my case, I belong to an organization here in GA that promotes concealed (and open) carry. I have a causal friendship with two atty's... at the meetings of the organization. I know if I have to, it only takes one phone call and they will be on the case.

Now for reality: I really hope and literally pray I never have to use deadly force to protect myself or the ones I care for... however if it happens I am ready.

Hope all this helps.

Come on by here we will put you through boot camp. We have permission from the owner of this big property next to us, there is always some drunk, thief,or just nosy person that just pulls up in there and acts like they own the place. I just heard a car door shut over there about a hour ago, and my son comes out with his 12 gauge pump and 9mm, and I have my 9mm on me I always wear mine at night anytime I go out here.

When they saw us come from the brush in the back, the dirt was flying. I fired 9 shots out of my 9mm, and my son fires 17 out of his Glock, and reloaded, we just fired them into the ground, but I am sure we sent them a message. Hey this is a once a week thing, last time there were 4 thugs showed up, so I called the sheriff for backup, the sheriff got here in 3 minutes, we had them trapped from running to the back, and the sheriff had them trapped from getting away in the driveway. Sheriff shook my son and my hand and said good job, and hauled the trespassers away. Never a dull moment here. Ammo sure is getting expensive, maybe I should get my neighbor that I am watching his property to buy my ammo.:D

I have been in situations here in the past year were people come on my neighbors property and ours, all of a sudden you just see someone standing there. We have no trespassing signs everywhere, you don't have a lot of thinking time, as always I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

It would appear my neck of the woods is a little quieter than yours... And here in GA, using deadly force meets with a little more opposition from TPTB than in Texas. The local law likes to be in control... rather than partner with citizens... Shame...

I am glad you have the relationship with the local folks and that you and your son(s) are well armed and capable of protecting yourself.

ON the Ammo: Go to Cabella's website, one can buy ammo for a serious discount. Just order it with a CC and they ship it to you...

Yeah the town that my family hails from in La, you are issued a firearm with your birth certificate when your born, that being said I learned how to handle my first gun at the age of 4. I had previously been looking into a concealed carry permit last year even though I dont own a pistol. Also, about your second to last statement I have the same stance.

Well there is a big storage building next door, that has 6 big units in it, my friend has the one up front. I think the crooks drive in there and act like their lost, or whatever during the day when someone is in their storage unit working with the big garage door up and check it out. Then they come back at night to "try" and break in, so for they were only able to break into one once, and that's because we were visiting my sister in Trinity, Texas at the time. You can hear a pin drop out here at night, we are in like the Country part of Houston, yes there is still some, yet rare, and after 10:00 PM it's dead, except for the crooks.

I haven't had to buy ammo for a while now. So long, it's at least doubled since the last time.

I live in the back end of a subdivision, about 5 houses from the dead end street. Not too many folks drive down here unless they have a reason to be here... part of choosing the house included this feature. Neighbors are quiet and few folks have parties at their homes.

About 5-6 years ago, I was going to move to the country (lady I was seeing had a place NE of Dahlonega in the N GA mountains). After spending the weekends up there... I found crime up there worse than here. Go figure...

Hey, it's everywhere, no safe place, my sister told me when I called her on Monday, that four crooks broke into the Pharmacy in Trinity,Texas were they live, they have them on camera, and know who they are, the old red-neck Sheriff is hot on their trail. My sister told me, no one wants to work up there, they just want to live off the Government, steal or sell drugs, talk about go figure, man, the Country used to be a place were hard working men and women set the examples.

Why work when one can be lazy and full of a childish attitude... Any liberal will tell you that is a lot smarter... :pileon: You do realize I am joking.

I think what we need is a couple of years of recession without govt handouts... a simple formula of life: Work or starve... Folks would be amazed at how many 'handi-capped' folks would figure out a way to be productive.

I do not have the Scripture handy, however I think back in Gen 3 or 4 when God put Adam and Eve out of the garden... they were told they would eat by the sweat of their brow...

Funny how when folks rebel against God's way... they find problems. This is kinda simplistic, but here goes: It appears to me ALL sin has one root: Rebellion against God and His authority in this world.

Glad to hear that you were able to resolve your situation without anyone getting injured or killed. Your post is a reminder to always lock your doors and never let anyone into your house if you don't know them.

I am going to have to stock up on high powered rifles and big caliber hand guns. I posted in another thread that I was buying some acerage. I ended up looking at this place and I am negotiating to buy it now.

http://www.weichert.com/33481541/

The biggest fear this far out in the woods is not so much people as it is bears. They don't care if the door is locked. If they smell food they are coming in. A friend close to this cabin killed a 350# black bear trying to bust through the front door of his mobile home last year.

People can be a problem because anyone who moves into Madison county is considered an "outsider". They are paranoid because even though Arkansas is the largest producer of rice in the world, it is not the states #1 agricultural crop. The #1 crop in Arkansas is Madison (bugger) county skunk weed. It is very corrupt out there, but we know all the important folks in the area so I feel safe.

They also make some of the best sugar and corn whiskey I have ever had. I bought it from the sheriff when I was in high school. I quit drinking so I don't have much use for "shine" anymore. ;>)

MI has he castle law as well, but I sure wish we were able to defend property though too. As it stands, we can only use deadly force to protect life and or serious injury.

Get a Desert Eagle. Nothing says "do what I say" like a fourteen-inch long pistol.

But seriously, I was shooting a .22 pistol when I was two or three. My dad holding my hands, of course. It took all of the curiousity away and I never had the urge to play bang-bang when the parnts were away.
