I've been wondering about whether an EAC would be anymore effective mounted horizontally at the end of the vertical drop in the return duct than after the turn, up against the furnace, the way I usually find them installed. It seems to me I saw this in an install guide or something. Anybody have any experience with this? Just curious.

I have always put them in
horizonaly in a vertical
duct when I can.The reason
is because of cleaner air
flow.Ninety % of the time
I can't.Why? Duct work.
It really won't allow it.
Most drop stacks are are
8"x24"or 10"x24"or something.
So there is no way to fit one
in.It is almost always this way
on upflow furnaces.It comes down
the side of the furnace.Than
some insanely ineffective
90 degee turn.If you have ever
looked at the cells on a eac
that is mounted on the furnace
this way.You will see that
the dirt on the cells is always
on the top half of the cells.
What you say does this have to do
with it.The is telling you in
the ever secret and rarly
understood(shush here).That most
if not all of the air is going
thru the top half of the filter.
(shush---shush) she seem to be
begging for......whats that...
air air airvanes at a min.
in confined spaces.Woa. wow.
Now that we understand the
wants no.....no the needs of the
filter gods.we can easly see
how that kind of setup can lead
to great waste of a loving and
careing eac.After all we were
only using half the old girls
suface area. And with the great
power in her transformer.It
causes her great pain. She has no
choice but to create ozone.
And being that she is being
belittled with poor air flow
she dose a really lousy job of cleaning
the air.

So clean air flow through all
sufaces of a eac = a happy
and effective air filter.

chiller,
Do your self and your customer a favor and find a better alternative than a electronic air cleaner i.e. a hepa, carbon,
or a choice of many media filters.
