View Full Version : Effect of missing "communicating" feature when XL20i is paired with XV80 furnace?

Since my existing furnace is a Trane XV80.. if I were to pair it up with an XL20i and use the 24V harness, would I be missing any major benefits of not having "communication" between the furnace and condenser?

I have the Honeywell VisionPro thermostat (capable of 3 stage heat / 2 stage cool and dehumidification). Would there be a big reason to swap it out with one of the Trane communicating thermostats?

The Trane website is vague about what communicating really does. They talk about it in marketing language but I have no idea technically what it means to automatically tune the system and so on.

If its installed properly you should be just fine. Use your honeywell stat as most like them better than trane/Am Stnd stats.

What's the difference? The higher end Trane T-stats are made by Honeywell anyway.

What does "automatically charges, configures and calibrates" mean? Trying to understand the Trane marketing-speak. I thought charging was done by some guy who climbs onto my roof with a canister of refrigerant and some fancy gauges. I am curious how a furnace would communicate with a condenser to "automatically charge."

If you have them put on a Vision pro IAQ and have them wire it to slow the blower to dehumidify you won't loose much functionality.

The stat you have now only over cools to dehumidify.
