My manager almost had a heart attack when he seen this compressor install by one of our technicians. It took the tech all day to do such a crappy installation. Also the same guy had 2 different call backs on this unit because of refrigerant leaks. Thank god he doesnt work for us anymore. So he sent me out this past friday to re-do the whole thing.

Only one drier was replaced in the system. As you can see the high pressure switch is piped in the way of mounting the compressor back where its suppose to bolt down too.

The original compressor mount holes are drilled out so you cant bolt down the compressor again. No clue why they were drilled out.

I ended up brazing 3/8s bolts through the bottom of the compressor mount panel where the original compressor was mounted.

Replaced both driers and check valves and repiped discharge line.

The finished product after plenty of de-greasing and re-pipeing.

Your company knew this guy didn't know what he was doing. They threw a body out at the problem. Who is kidding who? Oh you dint have experience. Oh OK just go and do it anyway. What it''s not cooling? Oh you dint know what your doing we will have to let you go. That braze over the schrader port is wild with a capital w, (Wild).

You know, I have seen compressor installs like that which were still running after 10 years.

Nice clean up.

I have seen worse though. Just today I checked out two YCD180 Voyagers with identical matching CRN-0500-TFS-270 replacement compressors side by side in each unit bolted down with one nut or not bolted down at all. Leaks all over the place. bad welds. All high and low pressure switches wired around. The condenser fan motors looked like a two year old replaced them. The run cap bandit would have been proud.

Did I mention it is a 15 ton unit. You do the math.

If I can find my camera I will snap a few pics.

im pretty sure my company wouldn't hire a tech if they didn't know what they were doing. A test is given to every tech before hire to even be considered. My thoughts on this is the tech was pretty damn lazy and didn't have any pride in any of is work......I know this because i've went behind him on numerous calls.

Nice...I love doing clean up jobs like this....it just sucks when your doing it behind people you work next too....Yeah on this same unit it had a over sized ofm and cracked fan blade which i replaced at the same time as the re-installation. Im just glad my company will do what it takes to make it right.

label on compressor,DANFORS (a Danish company) but made in USA, great to see, I know that a lot of Copeland scroll compressors are made in China now.
Going to buy more Danfors, they make all the ref. controls.

And it really sucks when you have to clean up jobs like these...When it is your boss that is the hack. Oops, did I say that.

Sorry no Pics. But I was a job today that the customer complained of a bad smell from the Furnace. It is an LP system. The gas valve was converted to LP, but the orifices were not. The bad smell was CO and soot burning. The heat exchanger is plugged up with soot and the flames were starting to roll out. Needless to say, but the heat exchanger will have to be replaced in the brand new furnace(90+).

Is that a schrader port that was brazed over or a fusable plug he melted from overheating it?

I thought that was a place to put his chewing gum.
Hey SigGuy, We had the same problem where the tech changed the spring on the gas valve but not the orifices. When he started the furnace it exploded like a cannon. I had the pleasure of changing the heat exchanger it looked super clean except for the big holes on the ends.

LOL, My first HVAC job out of the AF, My company hired an HVAC teacher from a local vocational college. He was fired within 2 weeks. (Plus, I heard from, more than one tech, that he was a great teacher).

If you work in refrigeration you would know Danfoss, they are a leading supplier of compressors and automated solutions to the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, their product range is among the most complete in the world. in my area(Illinois) almost all supply houses carry Danfoss products, I am just happy to see that they manufacture here and create jobs in U.S.

That is so funny you say that, we have the same issue at my company but the worst problem is that my boss is his "BEST FRIEND". It seems that their hard working and ball busting techs get scrutenized while this "TEACHER/TECH" gets everything covered up. None of our other techs respect or care the least for this guy. To beat it all he is my so called supervisor and they want me to look up to this baffoon.Hahah I am highly thinking of taking a walk here very soon, I work for a good contractor and have busted my butt for almost 5 years now and I get chewed for the simpliest things, makes no sense.

I worked with a guy like that once, knowledge mistakes everywhere. His background though was in large semi work including rebuilding, he's back doing that now. The company hired him knowing this and then sent him out on little rooftop stuff.
When I see schraders brazed like that I want to kick the guys ass though, it just screams 'I'm a dummy'.

I guess I am the only one with that little tool that lets you replace the core on a schrader valve with pressure on the system. I can't believe I waste money for tools like that when I already have a torch and could have just brazed it.
