Anyone seen this fault? refrigerant pump abnormal? My IOM does'nt have any faults and possible causes listed. I know it was an auto reset diagnostic, but it never reset until I killed main power to check solid state overload. I don't think ref. pump overload was tripped, but I did push the reset button. Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated.

cperk, been a little while since I played with these so a bit rusty, either the refrigerant pump motor klixon or overload module must of tripped to de-energize the 1K1 relay and bring up the refrigerant pump abnormal alarm. There are numerous possibilities that could have been caused this.

Exactly as Screwit stated. It requires a manual reset by going to diagnostic menu and resetting active diagnostics. Resetting the overload on the motor contactor will not cause the machine to start the pump. You need to reset the overload and reset the active diagnostic. Check connection of leads to motor at the contactor. I recall one instance of finding them loose from the factory. And of course check the amp draw of the motor and the overload setting. Possible the motor is overheating, in 18 years I have yet to have that happen.

got a question. i know about a gas pump, i believe the gas pump pulls oil from evap back to oil sump, now ref pump i think is differant, am i correct and what is purpose of gas pump.,

The gas pump is used on RTHC and RTHD to push oil entrained refrigerant from the evap. back to the comp. The refrigerant pump on an absorber pumps the refrigerant (which is water) to the ref. spray header which sprays onto evap. tubes. Some cents. have refrigerant pumps for motor cooling, but are pumping whatever ref. is in the machine.

I've had this very problem on a Horizon chiller, random ref pump trips. Changed the contactor and overload but still tripped, motor was ok never hot, wiring was ok, ref levels ok. Turned out to be the main isolator. Assuming the same small [ok tiny] isolator is fitted in the US as for the UK. One of the contacts in the isolator was poor but good enough to read level current and voltages whenever I checked, just failed whenever I turned my back! Caught it in the act, changed the isolator, problem fixed.
