Hey guys, I am starting some low temp Hill Phoenix racks this week and they are using the subcool o matic. I have the installation manual and the display, etc. All the racks I have worked on in 22 years and I have never worked on racks with this system before.

Is there anything else outside of the 4 page manual that has to be performed for start up on these things? LIKE, does the controller automatically know where the EEV is in its min and max throw, or is this something that has to be set up?
Any info from you guys that have a solid knowledge of this system would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Not familiar at all with the "subcool-o-matic" system, but I''ve programmed a few Danfoss controllers.

Is there a dedicated, independant controller for the subcooler or is it controlled through the Danfoss system?

If it is a dedicated controller, and I'm thinking of something along the lines of the Hill/Phoenix SMS (Superheat Management System) then you won't have to do a whole lot with it. Power up, open valves, maybe perform a set of system tests. Probably pretty much a no-brainer setup. Most of these have little by way of setup that can be done. Maybe adjust the SH through a computer interface or DIP switches or something.

Now, if you're controlling through the Danfoss, things might get interesting. Do you have an EXV or an EEPR type control valve?

Thanks Guys. JP, it is dedicated. it has two temp sensors for liquid outlet temp and the other in conjunction with a transducer to determine superheat. the control board looks circa 1970's! OH, It is an EEV. The E2 does have a sensor control task that will shut down the subcooler if it gets too cold for any reason. Other than that, it works independent.

Looks like it is now working ok. The dedicated subcooler rack was cycling the suction up and down due to low load. I'm now loading the rack up more and stabilizing the suction and the subcool o matic is settling down. It was chasing its tail......
I have attached the manual that I have for this system.

your working on a target start up by chance?

No, not a Target. Its a supermarket with all Hill Phoenix equipment. There are two low temp 404a racks, two second nature glycol chiller racks, and one dedicated subcooler rack for the other four (404a).
I will be starting the second nature chiller equipment this next week. WISH ME LUCK!!! Its my first one, I have only been to the Hill Phoenix class for this equipment.
