I have a 125# cylinder of 502 with about 3# used from it, what is it worth? When bought, paid about $10 per #.

You might get more from a museum than a tech.:D

Put some in the truck, you never know when you might run into something old that could use it? I was saving some R12 and R502 until last year, I put it in the truck and used it on older equipment. I kind of doubt I will ever have a use for it in the future? You could even put it in a R404A machine that has lost its entire charge. I have done it before
R502 ls still used. On old equipment with a small charge slightly short of refrigerant why would anyone think of converting. The cost of conversion done properly and drop in efficiency just don't make sense. Beyond ozone depletion.R12 and R502 were probably the greatest advancements in 20th century refrigeration.

I still use 12 and 502 regularly in ice cream boxes. It amazes me when others convert to god knows what and I end up replacing the compressor and recharging w/ the old stuff. Hardly ever do I have to service old boxes when the haven't been molested. One company I replaced 30 compressors in one summer and 2 the next year and none this year. Bad for business I guess

Most new 404A reach in freezers with cap tubes lose a compressor in their first year of operation. Stupid OEMs should be using TXVs to prevent this.

Actually, stupid consumers should be doing maintenance, like cleaning the condenser coil, every 134/404 that I have been to with problems was a clogged condenser.

OK, we will let the stupid OEMs count on the stupid consumers and continue to watch the compressors sludge the cheap cRap tubes and burn out compressors due to high super heat
And I will continue installing TXVs on these stupid OEM cRap tube machines :det:

Unfortunately stuped consumers often don't know. Whether that's a valid excuse or not is irrelevent. Their old R12 reach-in went for 10 years at a time without a problem. Why would you expect joe blow owner to know about poe oil, and higher pressures & temps?
I guess this "greener" refrigeration will keep us in business, and we'll educate as we go along.

Equipment manufactures should install a simple manual reset hpc. Customers should listen to the tech. when he(she) explains how keeping the condenser coil clean will help prevent all kinds of problems. I've told many a customer to go to sears and spend $100 ish dollars and get a compressor just like mine and blow out the coils once a month. Might as well be talking to the wall. On the other hand, changing cap tubes and compressors pays my bills. Having 502/12 is still a good thing. There are some applications where they are the best thing to use.

Stick a hot screwdriver in there to make a slot, turn it after it cools.
