So where do you place your condensate drain trap on a WI freezer, where the drain goes outdoors in the Northern states, where we have freezing temps in the winter.

Normally, I run a 7/8” copper line, straight out (with a good pitch and a union) and the trap runs parallel to the outside wall. Everything covered with 1/2'” armaflex and a self-regulating heat-tape. I run a 1 ¼ PVC sleeve thru the wall so I can get the heat tape outside for the trap.

I have seen traps inside the freezer, and they seem to work OK as well. However, you have to heat the trap year-round this way. On the up-side, the trap can't be vandalized if it's in the box.

So what do you do? Ice, you can’t answer… you have been out of the NE too long! http://kebawe.com/smellies/smellie_lol.gif

I like the way you do it with the 1 1/4 PVC IF YOU NEED TO YOU COULD PUT A TEMP CONTROL for your trap for cold weather

That would mean two heat tapes and a T'stat.- I like to run one from the coil to the outside.

Where is this outside line draining?
Pavement, grass, hog pen? It's country here! http://kebawe.com/smellies/smellie_oooo.gif I have a couple of places that let the condensate drip into a pan for the chickens.

Ice- it's time to get the snowblower out from the back of the pole barn and service it. Miss the good times?

One day I'll tell you about an incident I had with a snowblower many years ago.

I'm glad I don't need to deal with the need for them any more.

Now I just watch out for the Gators. ;)

I have done some before with no trap but used a kazoo tube on the end of drain that they use in transport trucks. That is what a truck box company calls them but there may be anther name then kazoo tube

I never put a trap inside the box, always outside. But, I'm in the south.

I've seen hundreds without traps and no problems. I know what the book says, but....
