What is up with goodman?
First I go to a service call to find the dreaded recall pipe and goodman will give the option of furnace replacement or just the pipe.
The furnace is sold to the customer, through the contractor, for less than (our) cost. The labor is paid by goodman at what they decide and you 'can't' collect any balance from the HO.
Second, I go to a service call to find a 2 year old goodman with a cracked heat exchanger. Goodman has another program for that on where they sell you the furnace for even cheaper than the pipe deal, BUT, you cannot charge the customer more than xxx.xx for the whole job!
Who the f@#$ do they think they are to dictate what we can charge someone to replace their crap?

First off, the dura-vent piping has nothing to do with Goodman. Secondly, every manufacturer authorized it's use. Lastly, ONLY Goodman has this program to replace the furnace and ONLY Goodman has taken any responsibility for authorizing the use of this type of venting.
EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER HAS LET THE CONSUMER TAKE THE BRUNT OF THIS INDUSTRY WIDE FAUX PAS!
If you don't want to do the job, don't do it.

at the contractors expense!

The C.A.P. program takes care of the vent issue and the customer pays for extra's if the C.A.P. doesn't cover it.
If you don't want to do the job, don't do it.
No kidding?
I thought you quit!
Chill!
How is the customer going to get a good job when you don't get paid.
BTW: the heat exchanger one was a hack job. A house that requires less than 40k BTU input and 600CFM had a 80K with a 4 ton drive. The plenum had 2 6" take offs teed off for a total of 4 registers and the return was taken from a closet. Yes that's right, it had 1 12x12 return in a closet!
And NO I don't blame the equipment on this one.
But I'm still getting paid my price for the work I do and goodman will not dictate that.
Furthermore, goodman has their OWN program for the vent pipe like I said

These are consumer programs designed by Goodman to help consumers with manufacturing design flaws. As long as Goodman is footing the bill for the equipment they have every right to prevent contractors from doing financial harm to the consumers that Goodman is trying to help out.
Again; if you don't like the program, stay out of it.
I did quit. Friday is my last day. I have never posted here on behalf of Goodman or any other company so what does my quiting have to do with anything? I have always called em as I see em for whatever brand I post about.

Ohh stop it!
Goodman is NOT footing the bill for the equipment! They sell it to the customer --Through the contractor--that means if I took the job I would have to buy the equipment and get reimbursed from the customer what I paid and goodman will pay minimal labor that would barely cover materials in one case and I would be paying in the other case.
In either case, if it's not done on my terms I walk.
I never said you spoke on behalf of anyone but yourself. However, everyone that knows you knows that you are biased toward goodman!
Coleman has a program for thier product too! The DGAT program dealing with Mobile Home furnaces. They supplied the material and said they would cover x amount of hours labor for certain procedures. And they pay travel time.

I take exception to this comment. Financial harm?
So goodman has the right to do 'financial harm' to the contractor for goodmans manufacturing defects??

Dura vent is hight temperature plastic vent for 80% AFUE?
HTPV was banned about ten years ago in Ontario.
The vent pipe was not the furnace manufactuer's problem. A lot of them stepped up to the plate and help the HOs out.

You guys are still finding plastic venting? I ripped out a ton of that crap and put in stainless... like 7 years ago. We limited our retrofits to only the Arcoaire (Snyder General) furnaces we installed. GUA's I believe... The HX's were another story all together. :-)

No, you can voice your opinion! lets hear it!!
What do you think of a manufacturer determining what you can get paid for a job? If you are an employee just think about if your boss came up to you and said: sorry, but , this job only pays $$.$$ for you to do the work.
and why is Dice getting edited by BC!. What'd I miss?

All right, seeing that you went and twisted my arm.
It’s top secret, I hope I am not taken away in the middle of the night for this. Robo is going to Iraq on a secret mission. “The company”, is the company he is working for.
His mission is to install four billion dollars worth of Goodman’s in Iraq. So finally, our President can say to America, “We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq”.
As for Goodman’s policy, we f-cked up, and we can’t charge the customer. So this is how much it is going to cost you contractors.

Well, I am officially unemployed and I still feel the same way. If the consumer is getting help from a manufacturer and an HVAC contractor does not like the fact that the manufacturer is helping out the consumer; then that HVAC contractor does not have to participate in the program.
What the hell are you complaining about? Again; If you don't want to do the job....DON'T DO IT! Someone else will be glad to do it.
I'm sorry but this thread is nothing short of a case of sour grapes.

You're goodman whipped, and your thinking is F'd up!
It's about a munufacturer determining what you 'can or cannot' charge to do a job. If goodman wants to 'help the consumer' first they would stop making equipment and second they would pay for the installation of a the new one.
But no, they just sell another box and tell you that you are not allowed to charge your normal rate but can only charge 25% of your normal rate!
Help out the consumer- what a fricken joke.
I HELPED THE CONSUMER BY DISCOVERING THE FRICKEN PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH!!
So take those grapes and shove them up your a$$ :p

Yep I knew it, they brainwashed him. Now it is going to take years for us to unravel the damage to poor Robo that has been done. Going to be a long road but we should be able to switch him over to an Atheist Dem I think.

Inf, you just don't get it. Most of the people Goodman sells the equipment to now only charge 25% of the normal rate, so Goodman thinks that's what we all charge :D

No matter what you do, you just can't please everyone.
Since I will be working with equipment that is influenced heavily by Trane I hope I don't become Tranewashed. Since I have already been a Trane dealer, as well as a Carrier and Rheem/Ruud dealer, as well as a Rheem/Ruud rep, I don't think there is much merit in the absurd rumor that I am able to be brainwashed. Unlike those who keep chanting about brands being that much different.

think outside the box. explane how the the real world works to the customer and the catch 22 you both are both in.
they can take goodman to small claims court for a max or $5000
in most parts of the country [without a lawer] , and you both will win. nothing to lose for you. and you'll both get a great education.
also Infwsdm it wouldn't hurt for you to write a letter about the unrealistic situation the wanting warantee has put the customer and legimate bussiness man in. this injustice invites unsafe ,and shody repairs for this man's family
