John Bohnam
Keith Moon

I'm the only one who thinks so, but Charlie Watts is one of the greatest. The drummer is the heart of the band, and no band played as a group like the Rolling Stones.

Another great drummer was Sammy Davis Junior he could play at least a dozen instruments and all of them well. As a side note he was also the third fastest quick draw artist in the world for many years number two and the man that taught him was Mel Torme also a very talented drummer.

Here's a couple more for consideration:
Joey Jordison and Brann Dailor.

I'm not sure if this list is the right one for Lars. He definitely belongs on one though. I do love the "Animal" though, he is worthy of recognition.

John Bohnam gets my vote. To bad he can't hold his liquor, what a waste of talent.

The muppet band was mentioned above...I remember seeing the time when the muppet show invited Buddy Rich. That was a classic and I'd love to get a DVD of that one! You see Buddy walking up to the drum set and playing all kinds of neat riffs on the posts, rims, etc of the drum set. When he finally sits down to play, the lights go out... But the best part is when he has a "battle of the drums" contest with Animal near the end. They really gave it their all! When its over and Animal realizes he lost, he grabs a drum and throws it at Buddy, who is then seen pulling it off his head. Apparently, Buddy later said that participating on the Muppet Show was one of the most fun things he ever did.

I saw a jam challenge between Buddy Rich and some young guy at a college I think Illinois or Indiana. One hour of them trying to out do the other I was tired just watching it. Buddy was fantastic.
