Okay I got to ask you bros for your help again.
My old brother-in-law has an ememgency generator on his farm. It is only 5000W but it sits in a gernerator shed. The shed is only 3x5x4. He just turned 69 and he can't pull the rip cord when the oil sets up.
I suggested a crank case plug. But he said that he can't find one to fit. Then I was thinking maybe a 250W IR lamp.
They heat what they see. I was just wondering if that would be a bad mix since there is gasoline present.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Great age, that 69.;)
If he can't find some sort of crankcase heater from someplace like JC Whitney,(Are they still around???) I think that a clamp light with one of those infrared lamps ould be fine. Just make sure it's secured well so it can't be knocked over. I'd keep it a couple feet away, too, just to be safe. The crankcase doesn't need to be a hundred degrees, 50 would be fine, I'd think...

Get a heating pad benny. If it’s not regulated, use a old remote bulb stat. If its safe for people, why not gas?
Maybe try some plumbing heat tape.

my dad use to use a dip stick heater in the winter for his 51 chevy. if he could find one he would have to remember to remove it and replace crank cace cap before starting.
plan #2 those russian mail order brides are pretty strong.
and they could keep a guy pretty warm on a stormy winters nite. of course 2 wives wouldn't work out

If there was a little insulation 250 W would probably work, maybe change the oil before winter too benny, maybe they want some 5W 30 instead of 10W 30 for the colder weather. If he still has manual they have recommended oils for temps.
As far as explosion goes maybe one of those oil filled electric heaters. See what I can come up with.

They make Block heaters for water cooled emergency generators. Any diesel engine shop should have one or beable to order one. They are a little 120 vac water heater with stat. All you need is a point on the block where you can connect it.
