Spotts, You suggested using a long, skinny mirror to inspect heat exchangers. I had a call at a glass and mirror place, and they cut me a few 1 1/4 * 25 mirrors. It is much easier to see, but how do you store and carry it? I'm sure I'll break them in my truck, or drop it in a basement. I thought about glueing it to a piece of wood or metal. Any suggestions?

Are saying they're 25 inches long?

yes, 25 inches long. Its much easier to see than with my little inspection mirror, just cumbersome.

I either broke or lost every inspection mirror I ever had on the truck. One time I was using one of my wifes little make up mirrors, it's all I had.

How about getting a piece of deminsional lumber. Example 2 x 6 x 28. Cut some 1" deep grooves in it with a circulator or table saw. Put the glass in the grooves and hold them in place with a couple of big rubber bands.

And then I was thinking. You could put a piece of duct tape on the back of the mirror and fold the access over so that it forms a frame on the reflective part. This would eleminate the shrape edges. Help prevent breakage. And if it does break all the little pieces wouldn't get all over the place.

Where is Spotts any way?? He emailed me that he got a high speed connection for his computer. So he must be over on the porn sites to see how fast he can down load pictures.

Probably won't see him again for a couple of weeks.:D

Pretty clever. Or if you've got a router, you could take a piece of wood, hollow out a section the same size as the mirror and glue the mirror in it. You could stick it into a piece of pvc pipe with a couple of end caps so it doesn't get broken.

with 2 caps. I put foam in the caps so it don't shake around. Stuff it behind the seat. I also dip one end of the mirror in that rubber plasti-dip stuff. It's amazing what you can see with one of those and a strong light huh? Still might want to spray the other side of the HX with water to find cracks around corners ya cant see. Shouldn't be any sharp edges on the mirror. The glass guys have those big ol wet sanders for that.

Good ideas guys, thanks. Glass guys did a good job, you could lick those edges (you could, not me!)

Spotts, have you gone blind, yet? I was worthless for the first month of cable internet.

but I'm being real careful...... I'm tired of the "See granny suck super big..." e-mails so now that I have a new e-mail addy that they dont know, I'm not going there. I just don't have a computer at home so I don't get on during the weekend till I get a work call.
