I am a over weight and was having some "minor" health problems and went to the doctor. He drew blood and found I have early stages of Diabetese and some other "issues"!!
Now I am on a low carb diet ......
I am a pasta and sandwich kind of guy ;)
I have been looking over what I CAN eat and it is not much!
How am I going to get full eating veggies and a little meat?
AND how do you fit in a exercise time during this time of the year when we are working 55-60 hours plus!!
Any body else on this??
Any input??
thanks

That's not a low carb diet, that's just a diet. I did that and I went from 261# to 254# so it worked for me.

Low Carb means breads and pastas rice .....
you can eat all the Meat eggs cheese and ( some ) butters veggies fruits, you dont have to eliminate all of it just cut down the portions, only maybe eat them once a day ( lunch is best ) cause you can work it off on your regular routine at work ( dinner means you relax and sleep) goes right to fat. I take a carb blocker ( found at walmart ) just for dinner time..I have lost 7 lbs in a week ( or if your going to eat high carb foods)
also Drink lots of water thats one of natures best weight loss
good luck

I just went on a similar diet, didn't wait for the doctor, but I'm not having any trouble with the food. Go ahead and have that pizza, but make it "low carb pizza", I make it in a cast iron skillet with no bread, but you have to use Meunster cheese (this is okay since Mussolini got in with the Germans in WWII). Use lots of meat and spices and a pound of cheese then a couple of beers won't kill ya', if you didn't cheat at breakfast and lunch. If you are working 50 to 60 hours a week doing physical labor, you are working out. Don't give up, some hack will take your place.

Anyhow Low carb is pasta rice breads ( others stuff too but they are the worst)
you can eat all the meats ( protien) and cheese ( clacium) and eggs ( who knows but thier good) and drink lots of water
If ya wanna each CARBS then do it at lunch so you can burn them off in your daily work routine
Drink lots of water natures best weight lose program

Hmmm ,why??
My Dr. put me on the South Beach diet for colesterol control.
The $25 book states that if you reduce weight, your colestorol and blood preasure will go down...
Some people have reversed their diabetes and no longer use insulin...
I went on the diet apx 4 weeks ago and have lost 20lbs and my blood preasure is down also. I have not had my colestorol checked as yet. I want to loose 5 more lbs.
I would reccommend the diet to anyone who can stick to a diet that doesn't leave you craving more food...
It was easy for me, I love salads with meat.
Some of the low carb items are difficult to find, and the first phase [2 weeks] may be hard for some people...

The South Beach Diet is one of the better thought out diet books... it is a realistic diet you can follow especially starting with the second phase.
I have always said high carbs will make you fat, bodybuilders have know this for years.
Simple carbs are the worst, like dognuts, candy, pop, pastrys and such...
Protein and good fats are the way to go. like meat, eggs, tuna, cheese... Eat some carbs like pasta every third day or so to keep from getting lathargic. Try eating smaller meals more often...5 to 6 small meals a day.
Working out on an empty stomach is the best for fat loss. I work out first thing in the morning, 5:00 AM, 4 times a week. Sometimes it is hard but I am determined, have been following this type of routine for more than 10 years.
If you have questions on diet and exercise e-mail me and I will help you out, mrvs@neo.rr.com
Good luck

Can't really say I've ever tried those... Are they like mountain oysters ? :)
I've been told to eat a regular lunch and for dinner just drink a Slim-fast.

I did that before, it's amazing how bad that stuff is for you. Your cholesterol will also go down a lot.

I was around 285 last winter, got fed up with it, so I started watching what I ate. I'm down to 250, would love to loose more, but not in a huge hurry to do so (I love food lol).
Cut way back on the soda (used to drink 3-4 cans a day), now I primarily drink diet (diet vanilla pepsi is the best), and only one or 2 a day tops, and try to cut back on the meal sizes.
I think the biggest benifit was drinking mostly water.
Good luck!

I use to and wish I still could, drink 1 0r even 2 liters of Mt. Dew during the work day. Dew and seeds are my fav, but I just gotta quit I guess. I am 235 today and I weighed in Sept 25th at 249.5! Done nothing new except that Diet pop and no fast food.
The reason I did stop eating fast food was that Movie "Supersize me" if you havent seen it its worth it...

Actually empty stomache is bad as the body will need energy and will eat the muscle you are trying to build, you will lose weight but your lean muscle mass will also decrease.

I'm sure that's right. I lift weights every night and if I don't eat enough I can't lift nearly as much.

Try this
http://www.bodyforlife.com
You get to eat six times a day. It works great. Just try it for 12 weeks.
You do know that Dr. Akins is dead.
Cutting carbs could be very useful in reducing your weight. But increasing your colesterol intake is not wise. The smartest thing is never get in that situation. I am starting now to be 5 lbs under wieght before the holidays. That way I dont put on an extra five, I put back 5. Try it for a few years you'll like it.

All I can say is that my new years resolution was to loose 25 lbs by the end of this year and I have already lost 25 lbs and have 2 months to go.
I just cut out almost all soda pop and fast food and junk food. I also have cut back gradually the amount I consumed daily as well. I still reward my self occasionally. I have my ups and downs but the net result is a slow and steady weight loss. I have gone down 4 inches in the waist Im looking leaner and better evey week.
The true seceret for weight loss is what ever works for you and you can keep up. For me it was a life style change more than a weight loss plan. I just got tired of being grossly over weight. I still have about 40 lbs to loose but I hope to have that done in 2 yrs or less. By then I will have succeded in changing my life style with a greater chance of keeping the weight off long term

The ABS POWER DIET is great. It was developed by the editor of men’s health.
Each letter in the acronym (that is why it is capitalized I am not shouting) stands for one of the 12 power foods try to eat three or more at each meal.
For the first two weeks no exercise then low impact weight training, abs work out and a little cardio. This is great for people who like to walk or do little cardio it is not necessary according to the plan. You will actually burn more fat this way than by doing a bunch of cardio.
I am loosing the last few pesky pounds around the middle and I never would have without the abs work outs and weight training (24 min 3mile is no problem for me).
The great thing is that no food is off limits since you like pasta and sandwiches use wheat pasta and whole wheat bread for a turkey sandwich. In that meal you would get your three power foods and no calorie counting or comparing portions to your fist or an inanimate object no slide rules, cards or label reading .
The fear of being hungry and no variety makes us all shy away from diets after all who wants to survive on butter, cheese and steak. You eat six times a day on the abs diet so you do not get hungry (3meals 3snacks). It is actually hard to do at first, but this is important to keep your metabolism up and will probably stabilize blood sugar too because there will always be a steady amount of glucose trickling into your blood stream.
If all that is not enough you are allowed to cheat one meal a week until you reach your goal then one day a week after that. That’s right if the wheat pasta and sandwiches don’t cut the mustard for you pig out on regular pasta and white bread pastrami, ham, bologna sandwiches at one meal, but after you get used to the substitutes you won’t even notice it I think.
Sorry about being long winded but I really believe in this because it works. The best part has been that my wife noticed a difference so I feel like I am doing this for her too and that always helps. Good luck on what ever route you choose I hope this helps.

I'm sure that's right. I lift weights every night and if I don't eat enough I can't lift nearly as much.
That's why he said "first thing in the morning." You exercise in the a.m. before eating. Then, you eat your five to six meals per day. If you find that you don't have enough energy to make it through the morning workout, then you can have a carb snack before the session. If I'm going to be < 1 hour, I'll eat afterwards. However, when I'm doing a long session (> 5 miles or > 1 hour), I'll have a protein bar or energy shake before the session. Since I started eating afterwards, I've been able to do more as I don't feel stuffed from breakfast.
In your case, you should be eating throughout the day to have enough energy for your session.
HVAC R has been doing it for quite some time. I'd follow his plan. However, don't ask him for any hair grooming tips unless you like the cue ball look.

Still no, you want something in your stomache, a banana, couple pieces of toast or something, not a full breakfast.

I'm starving every minute, so I just can't stop eating, so I excercise like a madman to burn it off. I ride my bicycle about 15 miles every other day in addition to working out every night. Dang, it's hard to find time for work, though :D
Been lifting weights for 3.5 years and riding the bike for 6 years. It takes all of my willpower to ride the bike when it's real cold or hot outside, but I've been out there when it was 12 degrees and when it was 111 degrees. Just can't stand those stationary bikes.
I do situps pulling 101 pounds of weight to keep the gut down.
It'd be nice if I could get a hold on the appetite so I could get more work done.

I gotta tell ya Ed, you gotta eat right and take care of yourself if you want to live long and keep all of you appendages! Listen to your doctor and read up on diabetes to understand what it is, what it does, and how you can prevent it from doing major damage.
One thing you should already know is wounds don't heal like they used to.
My Dad has diabetes. The abridged version is that at first he did not take care of himself like the doc said and he is paying for it now. He already lost 2 toes and part of a foot! He has major problems with his feet. Just last week he got a perscription for an antibiotic that costs $1200.00!!
Take care of yourself.

It is easy to see why America is the fatest country on earth, there is so much confusion on diet and exercise it isnt funny.
I have been bodybuilding for more than 16 years, and have learned a few things over the years through trial and error. I studied, listened, experimented and I learned.
I was always a skinny kid, how skinny? I wrestled at 98 pounds in 10th grade. Also failed an Army physical at 18, underweight, 5'11/105 lbs.
Everybody always gave me conflicting advice, I didnt know what to believe. So I did my own research, and I have surpassed all that have given me advice about being in shape.
Today at age 38, I bench 300, squat 400, and weigh 230@12% bodyfat, I have learned some things about getting into shape.
Point being, dont listen to the hype. There is some science behind getting into shape, do the research and follow what sounds logical.
Here are my top 10 items I live by...
1. Be consistant.
2. Only a few people train with real intensity.
3. Muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up half the space.
4. Muscle burns fat 24/7, aerobic exercise only burns calories taken in that day, not fat. Want a faster metabolism to burn calories, gain more muscle.
5. Yes I did say work out on an empty stomach for best fat loss. And I mean empty, like first thing in the morning. Why you ask?
You have not eaten for nearly 8 hours. When you exercise, most of what you burn off will come from stored fat, which is used as energy to fuel your workouts.
Keep in mind, that the order your body uses food for energy is...
1. simple carbs
2. Complex carbs
3. Protein
4. Fat
So, if you havent eaten anything for 8 hours, your body has no choice but to skip right to burning your stored fat for energy.
6. The body can only assimulate so much food in one serving. Small meals throughout the day allow the body to fully absorb all the vit/minerals, not to mention proper digestion.
7. Trust me, you are not drinking enough water. Water makes up about 72% of the body.
8. 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat. Reduce your calories by 500 day, loose 1 pound in 7 days. It's not rocket science.
9. Always carry food and water with you.
10.Lift weights with basic movements that involve several muscle groups. Short and sweet. Train hard, eat proper nutrition within an hour of training, then rest. If you need to workout for an 1 1/2hr 5/6 times a week, and do 10 sets a bodypart...you arent training hard enough. Be brief, be bold, be gone...
Seriously, train hard, rest, eat right...and you will get into shape. People make it to complicated.
Now since I gave away all my tips for getting into shape, can somebody tell me how to increase the strenght of my hair follicals? :)
