Hey- I had some guys over to play Texas Hold-um last night. What a great game! Funner than on TV. We played it simple. $5. would buy 100 chips [5¢ each]. 6 guys in the game, we'd play till one guy had all 600 chips, he'd grab the $30.00 and we'd go again. Started at 7:00, I couldn't believe it when I looked at the clock and it was 12:30. Oh yea, the more we drank the more chips cost. After a few hands, $10 for a hunderd, than $20. It was a good time and I have a headache and a few extra bucks in my pocket. Bluffing came real natural to me!

You can get 1000 pretty nice chips for around a hundred bucks. They're OK but I'd like to get real used Casino chips. You know, with the Harrahs or Cesars logo on them. Don't see any like that. Do they not sell the old ones like with playing cards? I don't live close enough to a casino to know.

If you have a CostCo around where you are then they have a great deal that has 300 really nice chips with all of the set up to play any poker game including black jack for about $50. I play once a month in a Texas Hold'em game. The buy in is $20 and last game there was 6 people involved. We started at 7pm and ended at 4am the next morning. It was cool because winner takes all and the winner walked away with $120. You are right, the game is 10 times more fun to play then watch.

What we do is buy in at the $20. The chips then become any amount that you want. What we did is make one color worth $1000, then $500 $100 and $50. That makes it really cool because the $20 that you buy in with is no longer on your mind. I think that is basically the idea behind how they play the game on tv. After a while it really feels like you have thousands of dollars infront of you.

Bluffing really is the name of the game. One time there was about $7000 in the pot and on the turn, I went all in having nothing but off suite cards in my hand and the last guy that was in with me folded and he had a high full house. That game is really a lot of fun.

on an all in bluff to get out of the short stack last night. After the guy folded to me, he says "Did you really have it?" and I laughed and said "Hell no, I didn't have ****!" and turned my cards. Really ticked him off, I don't think I'll ever show my hand like that again.... Live and learn. We kept getting confused by the blinds. When your down to 2 players, the dealer is the big blind, right? How often do you raise them? We always had the big 150% of the small. Like $10 small blind and $15 big. Correct?

The way that we do it is the left of the dealer is the small blind and the left of him is the big blind. We make the small half of what the big blind is. Every hour we would double the blind so that the pots would progressively get bigger. When you are down to just two then the dealer pays the small blind is how we have done it. We are always modifing things as we go but I think that we have it down to about the right way. If you have any ideas for me than let me know, we have a game in two weeks.

I play twice a week. We switched from tournament style to buy in whenever you want. Buy in for any amount you want - usually around $20. This prevents the losers from having to set around and wait till the tournament is done. Also everyone doesn't have to show up at the same time to start the game.......come and go as you please. I do miss the tournaments a little though :(
TIP: Have a set of rules in writing for what happens when someone accidentally flips a card face on the deal.
Make sure everyone understands that the cards "speak" for themselves. In other words if you say you have a pair but you really have a straight then you get the straight even though you miss called your hand.

what do you do when somebody flips a card up? I say discard it, burn one more, and give him a new card, never call misdeal and pick up everything. How would you do it steve?

When a card is flipped up during the dealing, it is a misdeal and all cards are reshuffled and dealt.
When a card is flipped up during play when people toss them to fold, etc, the card is shown to all.

Thanx MadMan. I thought that was right...... I just was soooooo pissed when I had seen my hand of 2 Kings, and laid it back down like it was nuthin', and the drunk assed dealer forgot to give himself his last card and hollered "Mishdeal!" and pulled all the card back in. Still makes me mad actually!

When I played cards, if you mis-dealt you matched the pot.

Atleast they were Kings. It is no fun getting the pocket rockets. You hardly ever can win with them it seems.

In reality, I really don't mind quoting myself.

We have the same rule, a miss deal means you match the big blind. We do that just because there are a few guys that play who seem to like the drinking more than the card playing. I am all for a good even mix but it does make things more interesting when the pot starts out sizeable.

If the first card is flipped up then it is a misdeal. If the second card is flipped up then it becomes the first burn card - no misdeal.
The problem is if the dealer has a partner in crime he can get a signal to misdeal on purpose.
That is how we handle it anyway.

Got a big game tonight. I want to play a few new games besides holdem. I think that I understand jacks or better but if anyone can run it down real quick I would consider it a personal favor.

One of the players has to have a pair of jacks or better to start the hand, if not cards are reshuffled and dealt.
I believe this same person starts the betting.
When the hand is finished, the original person claiming to have had jacks or better must show the amount of cards to prove he had jacks or better.
