Well, the old Chrysler AirTemp bit the dust the other night. It's 36 years old, and I was expecting it to go. The fan bearing was shot, and the motor over heated. Didn't think it was wroth spending the money to replace w/ a new blower motor.

why not have to guys that installed fix it. call em you have their numbers. looks like the bottom of that h2o tank has a little singe mark. you better fix that gas line or you'll be abused on here. have fun...nothing worse than working on your own stuff for free.

I did a search on those #'s and they don't match with the names.. Who knows.. those guys may be long retired or gone?

Yes, the waterheater has seen better days, and is going to be replaced soon. When I moved in, had to flush it.. I'd say it never been flushed out for 20 years.

you better fix that gas line

Yep, it's in the game plan!

Removed the line sets, and removed the foam, and found the TXV bulb duct taped at "noon" postion. Not straped tightly to the lineset.

Got the area relevled for the pad.

The battery was dead on the camera, and wasn't able to take a pix of the removed the old unit outside, and the line sets. When the linet set was removed, the low voltage wire was spliced in 3 area with duct tape.. Humm... dogs must of had lunch on the wires.

Got it installed today.

http://ww2.imagewiz.net/images/hvac/148903_trane2.JPG

http://ww2.imagewiz.net/images/hvac/148904_visonproairwatch.JPG

Got the outdoor unit installed, was not able to take a picture of it due it was already dark. we also had a sevear t-storm come though, so was not able to pump it down.

The bottom return did not work out. By the time it was up, room for the coil, media filter, there was not enough headroom to make the transtion. So end up doing the side return, and they upgraded me to the honeywell media filter. Took out the pipe for the basement return, and panned the wall to give us room to move the furance to the right to allow room for the media filter.

Drain is just a temp for now so I'll be able to use the heat

On Monday, will finsh off the A/C, and wrapping up the lineset at the furance. Do the drain lines, secure the conduit, and gas line.

spectacular work May... lovely job on the PVC. I install many of the new Honeywell touch-screens... whats your thoughts on them? A Choo-Choo dealer such as myself? Good play-by-play with the pics too.

whats your thoughts on them?

I love it. This is my first time I used such thing. Really easy to set up, and like the ideal you can "Customize" the t-stat.and what not.. (like non-program, 2 stage set up.. ect)

My mom just happend to stop by when I got done instaling the t-stat. She likes it, and is going to ask her installing dealer to upgrade her to this.

Any thoughts on you giving your Mom a better deal on such a thermostat... than her installing dealer? You could pull strings? :D

Looking good. Nice metal, nice flue work. Whose coil? Doesn't look like a Choo Choo or isn't the suction line connected?

I am not a dealer. I had it put in, and helped out some what by taking out the old furance, holding this and that.

Doesn't look like a Choo Choo or isn't the suction line connected

Right, it's not Trane's Coil. We used the old York one since it's only 2-3 years old, and it had a TXV, and was rated 12 SEERS.

It would be just about as easy to pump down and remove that coil so you can work.

Looks good.
I thought YOU were the one that was going to install that.
I don't think the XL13i is available anymore...might be wrong though.
What is that return grill on the wall on the otherside of the furnace connected to? Is that sleeved to the furnace? Is it filtered?
Can't use that trac pipe here though...would be nice if we could.
Didja tell the installer his work was gonna be posted so he better do a great job? :D

Dirt,

I guess I never thought about pumping it down.. Guess I could of done that! and Oops the line broke on me, and lost the last of the pressure. hehe

2hot2coolme,

I did take out the old furance. I am not a dealer or installer, I used to be in the HVAC Field 10 years ago.

What is that return grill on the wall on the otherside of the furnace connected to?

The return at first had it own pipe tied up to the main return, but since room was lost due to the Honeywell Air Filter, he removed the boot, and panned the wall, and moved the pipe to the top of the panning.

http://ww2.imagewiz.net/images/hvac/147483_freshpaint.JPG

I will post a new pix of that if you want.

Can't use that trac pipe here though.

I am not sure what you guys mean by that? It's PVC unless you mean the grey pipe from the A-Coil.

Didja tell the installer his work was gonna be posted so he better do a great job?

Yes, when he was here on Monday, I asked if he been on HVAC_talk, he said no.. So I showed him the sight, and he was happy to see that I've posted this on here. So he may be poking his head in here?? hehe

Trac pipe is the yellow flexible gas pipe you have.
They sell it here, but many areas won't allow it.

ok.. The gastite line.. They are used alot around here.. My parents had it redone in the whole house in the last home, and in the new house it done in the whole house.

I like it after how it is done.. No between joints to worry about leaks. and time saving!

The City inspector came by yesterday afternoon and inspect the whole setup, and he said looks great, and this company has done a great jobs in other home.

It got down to 10* last night and she ran nice and steady in 1st stage keeping temp w/ no problem!

Got the new water heater in at last. Been putting it off till after Christmas and New Year.

http://ww2.imagewiz.net/images/hvac1/182582_Pict0909.jpg

The water heater is MUCH taller than the old one!

Lucky the height stop at where it did.. Otherwise, I wouldn't have enough pitch for the flue pipe.

GOOD LOOKING JOB!!!!
afriad it would not pass code in NC though. seams not sealed and no cleaner on PVC vent pipe. Must be nice not to work with the messy stuff.

mayguy
01-30-2005, 04:19 PM
The purple cleaner/primer is not needed around here. just on plumbling. Yeah, I've seen pix on here with the purple stuff, man looks like crap!

You could use duct mastic if you wanted to, but it's in an open basement, and not in the attic or crawlspace.

mayguy

There is a switch just on the return drop, What's wrong with the 2 x 4 box w/ shut off switch, What do you use?

The flex conduit is a whole lot better than bare wire going from the switch to the furnace itself. So I don't see what's scrappy abou it?

Did you notice a difference in your electric bill with the XR 11? I just had a 4 ton Trane XB 12 installed 4/16/05..I had a 26 y/o 3.5 ton Whilrpool removed..In December, had a 4 ton Ruud Air Handler installed...

I would not know.. I had this unit installed in Oct, so Didn't use it in cooling mode.

They are due to be back next week to do a start up/performace test.

We moved into this house in Sept, and the old unit was a 12SEER York, I will see this summer if it's lower than the york or not. I am sure it'll be the same or a tad bit lower since I have the variable speed furnace vs the old '68 furnace that was in the home.

Hey,

Thanks for replying back.. I never thought about connecting "Thompson" to the Thompson Heating I used to hear... I used to intern w/ Tonna when I was in college... Did you use to work at Tonna?

Today was the first real run of the A/C we got up to 90.. I started the system off this am with 65% humidity, and when I go thome tonight at 10, it was around 43%.. so the Comfort-R did a good job. The fan was set to "Auto", and I did set it over to "Circ" and see what happens.

No,, I don't trip over the drain line.. just learn to step over it. Didn't see a point of putting a pump in where the floor drain works just fine.

What do you do?

ricm
08-03-2005, 02:19 AM
Proper thing... drains lines are fine... only other option excluding the pump, is to jack hammer a slot in the floor, insert drainlines, and fill back in before the epoxy floor paint... But... I'd rather learn to step over the lines like you have here.... :D

I agree about learning to step over it..

Only time I'd suggest breaking the cement or pump if it's a high traffic area, or no floor drain.
