As of November 5, 2004 I will no longer be a manufacturer's rep. I put in my intent to resign about 2 months ago when I agreed to take a one year position in Iraq.
I am not officially hired on to go to Iraq until I have gone through a week or two of indoctrination with the company I will be working for. At this point, this should just be a formality.
My bags are packed and my medical files have been filed. Hopefully I will have some limited ability to post once in a while.
My official departure will be within two weeks of getting a call to report to Houston. Until then, I will be an unemployed bum :D

Seriously, Goodman is losing someone they will not be able to replace in my opinion. We go back a long way here Robin, and you were one of the first net friends I actully met and even worked with. We had a blast at the convention. We don't agree on all issues but our mutual respect is non negotiable. I actually first heard about this at the convention in August, and wasn't sure what the deal was.
If I can be of any assist to you and yours while you are gone, let me know.
But it ain't fair.
Who am I gonna pick on after you leave???????

I had heard about this a few weeks ago but only now ran across this thread.

Wow! I should have known there'd be a lot of responces to say "see ya later" to me :D
Seriously, I am flattered. Let's see if I can respond as well;
I will be happy just to keep my head on :D
My two week blast will be spent with Lisa, my family and friends, all of whom are being adversely affected by my decision to do this.
I'm already in love, and she says she will be picking me up at the airport when I return.
Shhhhh, don't tell the Iraqi's; we want this to be a surprize :D No bravery though. I am absolutely not without fear. The brave ones are the ones I hope to be doing a service for.
Right back at ya Ed. At the convention I had just turned down the first offer. The second offer came a few days later. I suggest you pick on CDave and IGI more. One cause he's well seasoned and needs to be brought down a notch, the other cause he needs to be seasoned a little more.
No orange, that's for sure. I am going pure khaki drab to just blend in.
The 2006 convention is in Baltimore. I will certainly miss the 2005 convention.
#1 Prime objective.
#2 They provide and I will have my own.
#3 I will be surrounded by youth with big guns who hopefully will want to protect the guy responsible for keeping them comfy.
#4 Yea....right!
#5 If I cannot directly, Lisa will be posting in my place
If I can watch my a$$.......I've already been blown up!!!
The prayers are highly appreciated.
I'd like to think that I would not go out with a whimper but rather gnashing and destroying as much as I could of anyone doing me harm. One never knows. I don't plan on leaving the base.
Goodman's old condensing furnace drain/trap system always reminded me of a Rube Goldberg invention. Other than that, not much I can say :D Sorry, but I will need a job in about 14 months.
Only the first $80K is exempt from federal taxes. There MUST be crab cakes at the 2006 convention. Again, the prayers are very appreciated.
Tequila is on the banned list, as is all alcoholic drink. I will be looking forward to a nice glass of Paradiso when I return.
I prefer to just keep thinking of the women as on the banned list also. Besides, Lisa told me not to even think about it :D
(Beekeepers suits?) Speaking of one of a kind.....
Camels, goats, bigassed spiders; there's plenty of love to be had!
Will not be selling in Iraq any more than I sold here. I don't think Goodman has had any influence on what I will be working with. I will strictly be doing troop support equipment, no restructuring.
Going with KBR/Halliburton. There are better deals to be made with other companies, but the risks are elevated with the pay.
I have no clue what I am doing. Praying is the only thing I know for certain.
I don't fiure on much interaction with the Iraqi people, especially women, but I might take my Goodman shirts with me. What else are they good for now?
A bad week is not a good reason. At least I don't think it is.
There must be influence from Trane on some of the equipment I will be working with. Lot's of RotoLocks on the components. I'm still thinking "why?" Something is definetely steering me in this direction.
I fatten them up with candy bars before getting too friendly.
It's true; Dice did scare me off with the convention hosting. I have a year to figure out where I can go next to worm out of the 2006 convention.
Some bases are basic and MREs are the staple foods. If I am assigned to a newly formed base to get things set up and running, I just may be doing a diet of MREs. They are very high in calories by the way.
I'm looking forward to meeting a lot more from this forum. Thanks again for the prayers; I am a firm believer in prayer
Hopefully my staff will be speaking English. I am told that most will be American, with some Europeans and a few Iraqi's.
I'm hoping not to need luck and I plan on coming back. Oh, if Kerry becomes president, I will probably need the luck a lot more.
Actually, Lisa volunteered me to host the 2005 convention. Call her and tell her she still has to do it.
I don't believe I would be doing this without God's blessing. The money was a major initial draw, but yes, a sense of duty to our young men and women who are risking their very lives for my safety is very prevailent. The stories may be boring from the limited perspective I am hoping to have. Don't worry, I'll spice em up :D
Somehow "party" and "Iraq" don't seem to go together.
I'll bet there are some who aren't going to be missing my posts :D
Damn! I wanted to go to Bennington.
Hopefully God will provide my asperations. To date I don't know enough to have any. Funny you should mention LoJack...my son installs them. The Internet is limited so I will most likely be doing my posting via Lisa.
I think maidenusa's posts should be forwarded to Iraq. I think I could do standup based on the ones about Goodman :D Blood pressure just checked again today. It is "great" as has always been.
By the way, if asked by any Iraqi's I intend to tell them I am Canadian.
Vermont should do you southerners good. Lisa will be posting what I am up to.
Well, I think that covers what I have read. Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. It would be nice if this thing turns out for the best for the world in the near future. In the meantime, right, wrong or indifferent, we have to keep going in a forward motion.
God Bless and God speed Robin. We'll be praying for your safe return.

Hey that is a surprise. I was in Viet Nam. From what I can see on the news things are about the same over there in Iraq as far as danger goes.
There are safe places where Americans go so if you stay with Americans you'll be alright. You certainly are in for a culture shock.

I think your nuts.
I can not possibly see what sense this decision makes. Would you care to explain more.
You know that coin is not really what you put in the bank each month right?
RoBoTeq
10-31-2004, 10:37 PM
What's nuts? I am 51 years old, my youngest is 24 years old and I have have no tangable property due to bad investments and a very bad divorce. I believe very strongly in what our government is doing as far as cleaning up the Muslim world and am very appreciative for the young American men and women who have volunteered to literally put their lives on the line.
I have an oportunity to work with exotic HVAC equipment in an exotic location while doing something for American's that are making my country and the world a better place. There are thousands of others doing the same thing so this is not really that unusual, just not something everyone has the ability to do.
When I return I will have more experience in my trade, will have done something for those who are giving their all for me, and will be more financially secure. No, the pay is not that great. Since I will be on the job 24/7 the hour compensatory rate would actually work out to be less than I currently make. Then again, how much oportunity is there to get paid for working constantly for a year?
There is no Goodman equipment in Iraq. There seems to be a lot of influence from Trane from what I have dug up on the equipment that is being used. No R-22. Looks like mostly R134a and R4110a. I really cannot fully explain the why of my doing this because I really don't understand it fully myself. It just feels like the right thing to do.

As far as how long I will be in Houston.....who knows? This is a defense contractor working for the military in a war zone we are talking about here. I have no dilusions that things will go as smoothly as some recruiter claims they will. This is the kind of situation you go into expecting the worse and appreciating anything less than.
