I'm not one to endorse a product, but I had to try it. I did ask the store how many they sold & how returns they had. Was told 1 to 2 sold a week, and none have been returned. So I tried it. Just under 50 bucks, along with a five dollar phone and in less than five minutes I have my own phone number & a working home phone with un-limited local & long distance service & free message service. That's it for a whole year! No monthly phone bills, no contracts.
I was paying about 100 a month just so I could call my wife up now & then at work and ask her to bring home some cat food. Real long phone conversations may cause it to overheat, so you may have to buy one of those self-powered usb cables to go with it. My calls are short, so I didn't.

VOIP is amazing technology isn't it?

At my dad's company we switched to 8x8's VOIP service and saved almost $1,000 a month. And that includes online conferencing, voice mail by email, fax and more.

Goodbye local phone company!

im trying to figure out if it can be used on a laptop in the truck to fax
files without having to carry a fax machine. im sure there is a way but
not sure what it is. also the instructions say it cant be moved from one location to another. if you are on a clear wireless connection & using the
same computer im not sure if it would work or not.

Why not use an email to fax service. very reasonable prices from a lot of different companies.

for you to actually fax a document hard copy, you can use a scanner to upload the doc, then send it as a fax through email. less hardward, less wires.

Hey Marvin,

That's one of the beautiful things about VOIP. It'll work from any computer with an internet connection, so you could use it in a truck via a laptop with Clear.

But for faxing I would look into an online fax provider like efax for myfax as you would still need a fax machine with the MajicJack.

I have actually been looking at the majic jack for a while. I just havent seen fit to actually buy one just yet. I'm starting to think more and more about getting one now that they seem to be available every where.

I have been using it for the last couple years with no problems running xp. I switched to windows 7 about 2-3 weeks ago and its been real buggy since. I havent had time to mess around with it to figure out why or if has anything to do with 7 but be warned.

If your laptop has a dailup modem, connect the magic-jack (phone output) to the modem line in and use standard fax software.

Stable wireless connection required.

I think Majik Jack is junk. We had it. Tried to call would not ring the other end unless you tried 3 times. Lots of times people would call us, phone would never ring went straight to voicemail. Had it connected to a I-Mac.

I have Ooma Telo hooked to my Verizon/Fios-Internet. That set-up is the best available

VOIP. Voice quality is excellent.....able to dial E 911.
