The aluminum fins (Im guessing they are made of aluminum) on the condenser are dissolving in the lower right corner of a 5 ton split system compressor/condenser unit. I am 99% sure that male cats mark their territory their. How bad is this? Will it destroy the copper tubes eventually? Only a very small amount of actual fins are partially gone so I am not concerned about overall efficiency. More concerned about the unit longevity as its only 7 yrs old.

Let's look at it this way.......if it ate the aluminum, then it will eventually eat the copper.

Stop the cats from pissing on it ASAP!

Teaching cats not to do something is like trying to herd them.

Is their something that can be used to neutralize the piss? Maybe just hosing it off once, twice a week? Diluted Bleach?

Maybe if you would rinse it off everyday you could keep it from happening.

Their are products out there that repel cats.

Ok, after more thought I will build a barrier around it out of chicken wire so they can not get closer than a foot or two from it. PITA

According to this guy, you just lay the chicken wire on the ground. Cats hate walking on it.
