I was wondering, can two 1" 20 x 25 filters be stacked side-by-side for better efficiency? I know the big Air Bear's are the way to go, but they have gotten so expensive? Thanks for any help.

Side by side would give you 40X25, or 20X50.

If you mean 1 on top of the other. Just use 1. If you don't think the air near is worth the money for the better job it does.

Just change the filter more often

If you mean one in front of the other it's best not to. Two one inch filters will create more restriction than one two incher. 

Don't stack them one on top of the other for sure... that would create too much static drop and could really hurt the performance of your system... I would just go with the regular size filter....

If you use 2 filters side by side, there will be a dead space in the middle that will not allow airflow... calculate out the surface area of filter from one big filter to 2 smaller filters... Bet they are not the same dimension and thus not the same performance/pressure drop
