Carrier 38tdb Questions

Today I came upon a Carrier 38tdb060310 with a problem with the condensate pump - replaced that but

Back up a minute. The unit is running off a single stage tstat (enough wires to convert to 2 stage but customer not sold on idea). When the condensor receives 24vac on y1 the 2nd stage hi cool contractor pulls in and runs like this for a few minutes then compressor shuts down and first / low cool contector is energized and runs like this. Talked to a Carrier rep tech and he says that is not right. What I did to get it through the weekend (sunday service ) is put a jumoer at the condensor board between y1 and y2. Left it running in hi cool.

?1 does anyone have a service manual for this unit - office called carrier but they emailed a product data

?2 Should hi cool contactor pull in even whent he only call is y1

?3 Any problem with a jumper between y1 and y2

?4 Will a off the shelf 2 stage tstat work on this unit

Thanks that answered a few questions.

Now it looks like there is a fault with the board's compressor off timer because I had it running for a while before I took the covers off and found it to be 2 stage and going bak inside to check if there was a 2 stage t-stat. I cycled the unit by the Y1 not the disconnect and Hi cool came on first then dropped to low cool. Might be able to let it run this way without problem .
