New (8 months old) Payne 2 ton HP. Started going into “defrost” during cooling operation. (Condenser fan stops, compressor keeps running until it trips.) Contractor came out diagnosed as bad defrost board. Replaced board and unit worked fine for a week or two then started doing same thing. Weekend tech came out and moved the condenser fan wire from defrost relay directly to contactor to get A/C back on and said someone will come back to troubleshoot the board later.

Have you guys seen this type of thing before? Is there something in the wiring that could cause the defrost board to go bad that quickly? It seems unlikely to get two bad defrost boards in 8 months. Any ideas of what they may need to look for?

it is not likely to get multiple failures with the same part in such a sort time, but it is possible. Manufactures have issues with there equipment/parts all the time.

they need to look at the wiring diagram and make sure it's wired right.....it could be that the first tech did not put the wires right the first time...(just a thought).....
