Need to decide if I am going to spend more money on a Trane or go cheaper with Ducane. Contractor says he wouldn't put a Ducane in his own home, but says he will install it. This is going to be feeding a Unico 4860L system, so higher SEER would do nothing for me and it will be 4 ton. I read the XR14 is made in USA compared to the 13 made in Mexico. I would prefer to have a US make if at all possible because that is just me. I have no idea where Ducane is made? The difference in cost is less than $1K from Trane to Ducane (I don't think that breaks a rule since I am not giving price.)
Thanks for any help. Some contractors I have talked to say all units are about the same and just rebadged. From what I have read here, that isn't so. True?

Trane A/Cs are made in TX but could have a Mexican compressor. Usually the larger sizes use a scroll made here. Ducane is in the Lennox family. Depending upon model and age, could be made here or Mexico in a plant just opening to make builder Lennox and Allied - the group that makes Ducane. The use 100% Copeland scroll compressors and have a good warranty. We've had no issues with Allied's A/C units. As we say everywhere, installation is the key.
I haven't seen a newer Ducane unit so I do not know, but if they are anything like the ones that are 5-7 years ago I would not put one in my own home.
Trane is assembled in Tyler Tx.I don't know where the componets are made except that the coils are made in the same Tyler plant.

I like Ducane. Heat and A/C, I install them all the time.
There are better brands out there with more gadgets, but Ducane has a nice price.
In today's hard times my customers are happy to go with them.
Just put one in last week, 2.5 ton, 410a, new coil, lines and disconnect.
The suppliers are good about support too.
Have an air handler in my dad's house, no problem, 6 years now.
Have one in my in-laws too, no problems 4 yrs now.
