Hi all:

Not a HVAC person but if I could bother you folks with a question. I have a used aquarium chiller that works fine. took off the cover to clean out the dirt and grime etc. i noticed there is a fair bit of corrosion on the copper tubing from the humid salt water environment.

I was going to paint over the tubing (except evaporator) with some rust paint. Before doing so, is there a proper way of cleaning off the existing corrosion or should I just remove it with some sandpaper and paint away.

Sandpaper or wire brush should work fine

Might want to leave it alone, sometimes what looks bad is actually doing a better job than paint would. Whats the evaporater made of ? fish don't like copper.

I am talking about the green corrosion. Tremclad rust paint seems to better than regular spray paint.

Evaporator is a PVC tube with what appears to be titanium or 316 stainless coil circulating the refrigerant.
