Ok, that's interesting. The salesman said he did not spec this one for the Trane b/c it was too big and would somehow restrict airflow so he picked the model one size smaller, yet on the Carrier bid, he spec'd the 05 unit which happens to be 53 7/16, so it is even longer by almost 2 inches.
strange but not surprising.

The 4TEE3F39A1 is even taller at 57.9". It is narrower, however, at 23.5". Would have to know the exact models he was quoting though.

how about width / depth? where is the unit being installed? and how does the existing ductwork connect?

Ok, more specifically.
Bid 1, carrier 25hbc530 w/ fv4cnf005t00 vs. Bid 2, same system except smaller AH fv4cnf002.
Trane, bid 1 4twr5030E w/ 4tee3c02 vs. Bid 2, same cond. but with smaller AH 4tee3C01.
The system i favor is the carrier with the fv4cnf005 since it provides a higher seer rating at 16 and a slightly lower price. However, bid 2 says the 005 is too large. They both say "4TEE3F40B1" is too large but it seems similar in size to the carrier's 005, so someone may have their dimensions off, including me, lol.

4TWR5030 + 4TEE3C05A1 gets 16.25 seer , 13.5EER and 9.0 HSPH. The a/h is 26 wide 52 tall.
Now the 4TEE3C04A is 23.5 wide and 58 tall but will get you 16seer, 13.5eer(thats very good) and 9.0 HSPH.
Don't forget to look at the eer because thats maximum consumption used during peak hours. Its every bit as important as the seer.

Well, I didn't intend for this bid process to become so involved but I have been uncomfortable with the lack of a load analysis, though i've grown to see both sides, however, not climbing into the attic to inspect and measure really bothered me. I finally had the first guy bring a ladder and climb in, measure, inspect the duct, insulation, etc. While it took 3 calls to get him to call me back, now that he is here, I feel pretty good about his efforts to assess my needs. Part of that relates to accurately determining what fits and what doesn't, but getting in the attic to measure is a basic place to start, lol.
