As a regular writer on HVAC topics aimed at the interest of technicians, I am looking for suggestions. What HVAC topics would you like to see covered in an article?

Can you be more specific? There are lots of aspects to this topic. An article for publication is limited in length.

That is possible. But, it would be best as a series.

There probably should be a special section for this such as "Higher Education".

Gee BB, who would be invited? Can there be a "lower and middle education" section also? :D

Ducts- when replacing a unit point your eyes into the return hole (with then open) and then fix the holes you see... I shear some peolpe close their eyes when they replace equipment.

proper sizing of duct
proper sealing of duct
proper insulating of duct
layout of duct

Norm, check out my post ESP or Diagnosis. This might be of use to someone else as well.
P.S. I'm still waiting for your comments on it :)

Well I'm not sure whether I should take offense to that statement or not. Surely you jest.:D

I was being on the serious side for a change, but maybe it should be called The Learning Room or something. Just a thought.

And I don't think anyone should have to meet any qualifications in order to learn. Do You ???

Adressing the cost of capacity loss due to low airflow.Plus simmple corrections to the duct system to restore "full" cfms, without ripping out the duct system and starting over, not including room by room airflow.

Good material on VAV systems. I've read stuff that covers the basics, such as the different kind of boxes, etc. I'm interested in more detail, now that I got the basics down. I realize the more detailed aspects are often OEM specific, but there's bound to be some commonality between how they all work. such as setting the minimum and maximum airflows per box, causes of VAV box problems (such as a VFD set too high, creating too much system-wide static, which can lead to problems such as gears stripping on damper actuators, etc.)

Perhaps also some good material on various forms of capacity control in larger tonnage systems. Electric suction cutoff vs. pressure actuated suction cutoff, etc. Problems one might encounter in a system that utilizes capacity control, such as oil return issues, head pressure concerns under low ambient conditions, properly setting up a multi-stage evaporator with multiple TXV's, etc.

And...if we can get more techs to read the stuff you've already written about superheat/subcooling, etc. the trade would definitely benefit.

As an HVAC student I appreciate the basics: System charging, evacuation, refrigeration troubleshooting, etc. Although I know this will bore the experienced techs.

As someone with an electronics background, I'd be most interested in DDC, controls & automation - basic theory and current application.

BTW Chris, I really enjoy your tech articles!
