I have one of these on a 19 dh machine . Last week after a main power transformer blew in the nieghborhood the chiller went down but apparently the purge and chilled water pump kept right on truckin . The chilled water temp got pretty warm I don't know how much warm and the purge pumped all the r-11 out .
So I arrived on site yesterday and the purge is still pumping out and like a dummy I switched it from auto to off . Instead of opening panel and seeing the timing relay state . So then by talking with CPI and tracing wiring I get a good Idea of how this purge works .
The next thing I did was jump out unit to run in auto I wanted to see ten minute timing relay work and it did everytime it can only be reset by removeing power . At this point I have ordered a new relay because thats the only way the purge compressor could have ran but I have not seen it fail .
Has anyone seen this before ? I know what some would say is rip it out and install a Trane purifier purge .

That is a trane purge, they stole the ideal and cheapened it by not having a seperate refrig circuit etc. I have not seen one for 10 years at least. I don't see why it would pump out even with warm water, if there was no air in it.I would suspect a stuck relay or maybe a design flaw, wherby the next time chiller loses power it will happen again. Simulate a power failure and see what happens.

Stilll have two on the hoof, over fifteen years old. Haven't had that problem, but their little check valve has been a problem when the plastic piece partially disintegrated and blocked the gas flow. Also had the strainer plug on one. One of them tipped me off to a failing condenser tube with ice forming inside the chamber, visible through the sight glass. The ones I have do have a small DX to cool the chamber, a later model, maybe?

They aren't perfect, and components can fail, but there's worse ones on the market.
There should be timers on both the manual and automatic modes. I'd replace both timers, and track down the wiring, too.

Do you have a factory contact for the company?

My wild guess would be that with no liquid in the chamber, and a failed timer or monkeyed wiring, it could keep pumping for days, Unless it was a really small machine it would seem like it would take days to pump out the whole charge. Are you sure the disc didn't blow?

Are you sure the disc didn't blow?

That would be my first question under the conditions described.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the disc didn't blow because on finding it was in a 20 inch vacuum . There is another identical chiller right next sept it's quad purge has the two relay set up that will limit it to ten minutes even in manual mode .
The chiller in question has a single timing relay its a pin type I took it apart to look at it it has some electronic circuits and not much wear on contacts .

It has a vent guard on it with no press reading on its guage . Actually it has rupture disc then vent guard . Also the charge is625# good chance it had less than that .

I think vent guard is auto reset. At least all of the ones I've seen. But the ones I've seen they also remove rupture disk before installing, because a carbon or fragmenting rupture disk could get pieces under seat to not let vent guard seal back off. Is it a nonfragmenting disk (metal)? I believe guage is on outlet of gaurd. Be nice if there was one before, because you would know if disk blew for sure.
