I sat, as did millions of other Americans, and watched as our
government underwent a peaceful transition of power in January 2001.

At first, I felt a swell of pride and patriotism as I watched
George W.Bush take his oath of office.

However, all that pride quickly vanished as I later watched
William Jefferson Clinton board Air Force One for the last time.

I saw 21 Marines, in full dress uniform with rifles, fire a
21-gun salute to the outgoing president.

It was then that I realized how far America's military had
deteriorated under Clinton.

Every last one of them missed.

And John Kerry wants to do the same thing!!
I'm NEVER for reducing our military!!I think that will always be a BIG mistake no matter who is in office!!

Truth is, Bush hasn't increased the military spending budget either. With a war you automatically think so, don't you? But instead the reservists are called and everyone that is 1 week away from receiving a full pension gets sent back home from Iraq. Now THAT'S what I hate.

That's not exactly true. Reservist are called on because the active duty military was gutted by Clinton and congress. And most of us are willing to go that's why we signed the papers. No one is being kicked out 1 week before retirement.

That is absolutly false and should be deleted for that simple reason.
Reservist and Guardsman have been used in that fashion since their conception, and as woods says, their use is strictly based on need and they are needed due to enormous cutbacks during the Clinton yrs to the active military.
Clinton's planning, or lack of foresight, is what we are paying for now in so many ways, not just the military issue.

You guys have a bad memory. Think back to the Reagan years when Mr. Reagan spent the Russians broke. All anyone could talk about was the peace dividend that future Americans would reap. Bush Sr was the next president and the military cuts started during his term and they were mandated by public opinion

Nice spin ackmanko, but somewhat mis-interpreted on your part.
Reduction spending started to occur after the fall of the USSR, and most was due to the forces taken off of alert status, and bases being evaluated for closing.

Clinton drastically cut military spending to move funds to other areas, big difference. Clinton saw a new threat and basicly ignored it, he never tried to refocus the military to face terrorism.

As always, I ask, Where is your documentation of such an outrageous statement?

you're right ac the draw down did start under Papa Bush which is why I didn't think too much of him. I served under Reagan and Bush and now W. Clinton and his gang did much more damage to our military whether you want to admit it or not.
