Install a Lennox G61-MPV, Aprilaire 500 and new A/C system for a customer about a month ago. Customer is very sensitive to odors and chemicals and is working home based to avoid pollutants at her office. Was thrilled after the first two weeks and then called to say the house had a strange odor that was making her eyes water and breathing diffucult. When I walked in the front door, I was hit with an odor I would describe as a decaying animal, somewhat sweet but not pleasant. I checked the chimney and dryer vents for any signs of critters and found none. The woman is agood housekeeper and has no pets and no history of mice or other rodents coming into the house.
I then started to consider ozone form the Aprilaire 5000. I can usually tell when I enter a home if it has a malfuntioning EAC with elevated ozone levels. It produces that sweet type smell also. But the odor in this house was extremely strong. I guess it could be ozone if it was the extremley high, but I still thinks it smells more like a dead rodent. I call Aprilare and they said they have had no issues with the 5000.
I am having her turned the EAC off for a while to see what happens. Anyone have Ideas? Thanks.
