carlyle m#06ex299460 compressor
a/c application with 2 unloaders(3 heads total),unloaders are the #06ea400613d.
Friday afternoon get call of a bunch of oil all over. Get to site and find a fair bit of residual oil covering one head and side of compressor. Check out system and find slight bubble at sight glass and leak at the base of unloader where it sits on head. so my question is , is this as simple as getting new unloader gasket, pulling unloader off and swapping out gasket? Am I going to need to reset unloader? Anybody know the torque specs for the unloader? As yous guys can tell I'm a little green, but would appreciate any info on subject because I'm interested and would like to do the work.

All you need to do is isolate the compressor, remove refrigerant from compressor, replace unloader gasket, snug bolts, evacuate compressor and open valves.

If your distributor can't provide torque specs, go to carlyle's website. Download the Carlyle Pocket Compressor Guide. Handy little book...I use it nearly every day to help answer questions/calls.

You may need the handy little allen wrench they sell with those unloaders.

All above is very good advice. The torque called for is 12-16#.

Don't snug bolts torque down bolts to specs unless you want a face full of metal. also when removing head don't hit head with mallet you will shear the dowel pins!!Use a little oil on paper gaskets don't use to much, metal gaskets get installed dry. Take your time and note how you took things apart, GOOD LUCK.

A regular size allen key will not quite fit properly between the head and the unloader, I really hate those damned allen keys...I dont know how many times I have had to buy a new set just for the one size I need... anyone else

I think it's one of those things i'll never figure out. why can't they make it so you can use a regular allen must be a scam to keep buying those little allen keys. I'm just pissed I didn't think of it.
