I have a Carrier 19XR. I was wondering if the oil pressure sensors can be removed, with out transferring the refrigerant. I thought they had shrader valves under them, but another tech says no.

changed oil diff switch on a 19XL, did transfer ref. to cond. and low and behold it did have shraders, better safe than sorry, but i dont know on newer 19XR

early on carrier had problems with phantom oil pressure faults. one of the so-called "fixes" was to remove the schraders. be careful. best to pump over if you're unsure.

Yup, I'd pump it down. Not cuz I'm afraid of letting some gas out, but because I'm not a fan of cleaning up an oil slick after the refrigerant tries to get out lol

Wouldn't hurt to leave a tag behind noting if there is one in there or not.

slb is right.

I appreciate the replies. What's funny is the other tech, ended up getting the work order to replace the sensor. He transferred all the refrigerant to change it. Only to find out...it had a shrader. His statement, "It's done......who cares how long it took."

Hmm....this is a parts and labor contract.
