Working on a Rudd rtu 15 ton. Has a bad compressor. Bad compressor is a 9.5 ton Copeland, other compressor is a Techumseh 5 ton (both according to my dist. when I gave him the model numbers). Would the two different size compressors be original design for this unit?
RTU Mod# RRCF-150 CK
Ser# B4458BTCPCG229600921
Copeland comp # BRG 2 0900 TFC902
Thanks!

Ruud and Lennox both had a unit of same era that used two different sized compressors and controlled them for 3 stages of cooling.
1st = 5ton, 2nd = 9.5ton, 3rd = 5 + 9.5ton.
Confirm on the schematic.
Cheers.

That's wild!
Looked up to see for myself. If that Tecumseh dies, they'll replace it with a Bristol. But the Copeland stays the same. Looking at the capacity breakdown, they rate it at 100% and 66% instead of the usual 50% so all makes sense. Guess they don't run the little guy alone.
