When cleaning resturaunt equipment such as coils for refrigeration and AC, can one use a steam cleaner with 285*F without worry about the high temperatures effecting the burst pressure of the copper carrying the refrigerant. Naturally the system is not running, just idle?

There's a great thread about that here:

check your pressure temperature chart at that temperature. any soft solder? high pressure switch that might need to be reset. mineral oil can break down at i believe about 300 degrees.

Thanks guys for the response and the link. I am definitly going to research the cleaning process more and hopefully find something that can reduce the time and maintain safety.

Im not so sure that you are the right person for the job if you do not relize that 380 hp is not to freaking high further more your coils are cloged and that is why you lost a condensor fan motor, you should look into a tech school and get some training and stop taking jobs from people who have took the time to learn this trade.....

Dunno if they are using that hot of a temp for steam but know of a few resturants that use steam cleaners on their condensors nothing has gone boom yet.

C'mon guys at 285*F steam is not the actual temperature on the coils, just the temperature coming from your steam machine. Breakdown of oil and refrigerant though is something I did not think of,and that is why I am asking what you pros do. I am a licenced HVAC heatpump, oil, and gas mechanic in the residential field and do light commmercial up to 30 tons. Cleaning of systems is vital to all operations in our field.
Refrigeration was a part of my work before the ban on R12 and R502. I am now stsrting to go back to it.

Take a pill pal...were all here to help and learn, if you don't have something helpful to say...please don't!
Based on your bio...you need some training.
