Greetings:
I have a 20 + year old Deluxe 3 C/W a Level 00 board. Unit M/N FH290A-A00, S/N 145317A. BTW, I have 20 other Deluxe 3s of the same vintage, but this is the only one so far to cause this problem.
The unit works fine; the problem I have is when the main power is interrupted, the on board battery pack ( Panasonic NR-1/3AAHF3P1) does not retain the display values. It reverts back to the factory default of I believe
76*F c/w a 3*F differential. The setpoint is 71*F @ 2*F differential.
Question: has anyone changed out these on board batteries for this scenario? The local rep wants to sell me a board kit; I have done one where there has been major board failures. I just completed the iCOM 4 day course - the instructor was a great guy, but he was not up to speed on the Level 00 stuff so much.
This is in an unmanned substation, so I get a call saying the unit is off, when in reality, it just feels warmer than normal to the guys that go up there sporatically.
Thanks for looking!

You can order the batteries from an on-line battery supply house and solder them on. Same procedure as building RC battery packs or soldering on pc boards. Use flux core solder and don't overheat the battery. If you can find the pre-assembled pack with wire stubs you are ahead of the game.
The same could be done for Levels 1 and 2.
Or you can just spend thousands on a retrofit.....

You can often obtain the batteries at a radio shack.

Just went threw this at one of my sites, I recommend when you replace the batterys to not unsolder the old posts from the board but leave the old post intact and as long as possable, then solder the new batterys to the old posts in the board and this way you don't overheat the board. hope that makes sense!

Thanks for the info so far -
I am trying to cross the Panasonic number that is on the battery pack - to no avail.
Is there a voltage or other spec. that is correct for this application? I haven't measured the voltage at the pins on the board, but I assume it gets a constant trickle charge and then discharges when the unit powers down.
Any help is appreciated.

Good advice... I failed to mention about cutting the wires on the existing batteries as close to the battery as posible and soldering to them.

Freonguy,
This is a 3v battery, I will investigate a cross reference number or a suitable replacement. The new iCom boards now have a stand up disc shaped battery that is soldered in, some AM/AG boards had a 3v disc battery that was easy to replace no soldering.
These are fairly easy to replace with a soldering iron, you may want to get multiples to replace as needed, as you indicated that you had twenty plus units at this site.
Just measured a level 00 board in the wharehouse and it measures 1.75vdc and this board has not been powered up for a long time.
Feel free to contact me thru email address in profile.

Dilky:
I realize that you can do an upgrade; I have done one so far and it was pretty straight forward.
The only problem I have in this case is that the on ' board ' battery backup is done ( not bad for 22 years old ) - why spend several k for a perfectly serviceable board when all it needs is a battery to hold the setpoints?
We are a manufacturer of Pulp and Paper - I have 25 Lieberts in the stable here and I have the ECS1 and iCom training - if I were out in the real world and it were a true sever room application, then the board would be the way to go. Thanks for the input.

if you can replace the batteries then go ahead but take it from me ive been a liebert rep for 12 years, if the batteries are going bad thats only the start from a level o to a level 10 more trouble will follow, these are outdated controls, with many failures, try it on one or two units and let me know i promise you your customer will love it, and the savings too, just my opinion but try it out, good luck i like your commintment as a service man and not a parts changer.

Batteries are found at any battery specialty shop.
Failing batteries have no link to the lifespan of the board... I have been working on Lieberts since the solid state days... the boards normally outlast the coils and the other components. The triacs and a few other components can also be replaced if you are experienced in that type of repair.
After all..... parts are parts...

When you did the upgrade, did Liebert tell you everything you needed to know, like the wire that has to land on the wire common to the two HP switches on some models?
If you end up doing the upgrade, which may no longer be available, since they've pretty much changed the system 3 to a new model, it's worth a call to their tech line and just ask point blank,"what are you not telling me?" I did one about ten years ago where that phone call saved my butt.

Just to report I got the battery replacement per Domcourt's suggestion - exact size, replaced, all good.
Thanks for the input.
