I have seen a few Hb smith boilers with the external headers in my plumbing & heating career however I now have a chance to replace all the leaking running thread nipples on a 7 section hot water boiler. Is this the type of job that goes pretty good or pretty bad:gah: The boiler was installed in 1970. Is it a waste of money to do this to a 40 year old boiler??

if it were new, its rather easy, but on a boiler this old, how easy will they come out? if they break youu are then stuck playing games with possibly torch, hammer and chisel heating them up and pounding them out. since its a little guy, do it, but only for t and m. i would be trying to sell bthem a new boiler first.40, they got their money out of it.

I think I might take your advice. 40 years is good life, after we get rid of $25,000 dollar cars after 4 years.:CU:

like flange said, with a boiler this old you are looking at trouble getting these nipples out, with the t&m they will spend on this you can buy a new one:oops:
