Dirty Oil Screen, But a Clean Sensor Screen .... What Gives???...

I had fluctuating oil pressure at my gage. So I dumped the oil, pulled the screen and noticed a mess of copper particles all over the screen.
Brake Kleen is Wonderful stuff!!!

Now.. when I pulled the Sentronics sensor, it was spotless.
How could I have filthy bottom screen and yet have a spotless sensor screen? It doesnt make sence to me.


Now I got thirty five plus on the net oil pressure. And no fluctuating needle on the gage.

sensor screen has no oil flow only pressure. this prevents deposits from collecting on the screen. good save on the pump screen though.

Oh! Thanks. Now that makes sense. This was a single system, not a rack unit.

Frozen is right on the money. The sump screen is what protects the oil pump from most of the crap in the sump. No flow through the sensor, which is really just a differential switch that measures the diff between the oil pump dicharge and the suction pressure on the sump. Be carefull of those pesky o-rings on the sensor. they can leak and cause nuisance trips.

Pesky trips on the OPS is definately NOT something I like.

If the o ring looks alright, is it .... or isnt it?

If I'm experiencing trips, should I include replacement of that o ring as part of what I normally do?

If you can get a few o-rings to keep on your truck I would. You can also buy just the sensor and keep one of those on the truck for emergencies. Look for the o-rings to be swollen and loose in the groove. If they are replace. Also check for nicks or tears. Otherwise lube them up good with oil before reinstalling and you should be good. The sensor is just a switch so you can ohm it out with the compressor running and the lead disconnected. Good idea to have a gauge on the pump so you know what the net pressure is.

One more thing to check .

If compresser short cycles a Sentronic will eventually trip out.
It will add up all the time oil pressure was low and trip.
It's cumulative.(spelling):o

Yep, the Sentronic stores the time in low pressure versus good. After 4 minutes of continuos good pressure it erases the count. So make sure it's not short cycling.

If your comp is 208 wire the sentronic 4 wire, take the two power leads to the compressor terminals. When the compressor contactor drops out, so will the sentronic.
