York YKAD R-134A Just repaired a leak on one of these and found much oil in the evaporator. Any known procedure to bring back the lube to the sump on this. I will investigate oil migration once it's up and running.Thanks.

Run it. Oil will come back if the return (skimmer) is working correctly. Don't let it load to the point that you start getting carryover. Once it's back, let it load and run. It'll take about 36 to 48 hours to get the oil levels stabilized between what's in the sump and what's floating in the system. Dump as needed to maintain good sump level.

I haven't had my hands on a YK. How does thier skimmer compare to a 19XRV?

I'm a few thousand miles east today, away from the nuthouse.

Been a little bit since I've seen an XRV, but the basics are the same - pulls from the evap and the vane housing. New YK's use an eductor block that's internal to the oil sump ("That was real bright", he said sarcastically).

Thanks KLOVE. This is the first problem I have seen with this type of chiller. Fired it up today and it doesn't sound too healthy. Sounds like a FreightTrain which is a new sound if I remember correctly. Other than that it is running fine.

On the 19XRV sometimes you can get the oil back quicker by throttling the LL valve, and raising the condensing temp, but you have to be right there watching it. I've also noticed two eductors on some of the newer ones.

I've also had to add oil to a safe level, and then remove some as the oil returns. Usually this is caused by long runs at very low loads or a failed
chill barrel DP transducer on variable flow evap applications.

Idaho how all this would apply to a YK, though.

It is the same thing, only different-GEO
