Hello,
I'm currently considering replacing both of my AC and Furnace combinations, as they are the original York units, and are getting quite noisy, rusty, and long in the tooth. Just for everyones information, I've had no problems with these in the 12 years they've been in place, out side of replacing a coil 5 years ago, and that was because it was inside a fiberboard box which had gotten smelly.
I've received bids from several respected contractors with whom I have confidence in, and have settled down on deciding between either a Carrier
System or an Amana System. My concerns are, after reading all of the threads within this forum are the use of aftermarket coils to meet SEER/EER standards, and unit reliability. I'm in Texas so cooling reliabilty is the most important feature I'm looking for.
The equipment which has been proposed is as follows:
Carrier:
Base Puron 16 Units (24ABC6 Series)
Performance Boost 80 Furnaces
Carrier Tin Coated Coils
Honeywell Air Filters
Edge Thermidostat
Amana
ASXC16 with the Varriable Speed Furnace for Downstairs
ASX14 with the Dual Speed Furnace for Upstairs
Unknown Thermostats
Standard Air filter
Aspen Coils (Persumably to meet SEER/EER)
While the Carrier unit is more basic and single stage, it's simplicity somewhat appeals to me. The Amana units has the dual scrolls (downstairs), but I'm concerned about the use of Aspen coils.
I appeal to the knowledge of the forum.
Thanks,
Jim
