View Full Version : TAC IA series basics

I am trying to understand the basics of the IA series architecture including hardware and software requirements.
I have a Robertshaw DMS site that I will be upgrading, as the client, in the near future.
I know my local TAC business has no knowledge of the IA series as I used to work for them.
So my understanding is that I can use a UNC 500 or 600 series controller with either a dms or microsmart comms licence to interface to my robertshaw network.
What software is used to setup the UNC?
Does it learn the network and associatted points or do you have to program them?
If I get the -web version of the controller do I need any other software?
Workplace tech is the software used to program the mn series controllers?
Is the enterprise server what is used to tie all the network together?
Do I need it if I am going to use the -web version UNC?
Does the enterprise server do all of the lon network management?
The other site here is a TAC vista site and this product I know well as I worked as a service tech for TAC for 10 years; so there is every possibilty I will go that path for the upgrade but as it will be staged I will still want to interface the 2 systems.
Thanks for all and any input.
Regards

Dazza,
Shoot me an email (in my profile).
Just read about the Storm getting stripped of their championships! Sucks to be a Storm fan.

I interfaced to some of these controllers the other day with Delta and looking for info I found this: http://www.tac.com/us/Navigate?node=9569 Kinda helpful. And Kontrol the Delta auto discovered all modules and i could read/write to any of them. No luck on creating points in their modules though. That would be too easy.

Thanks GONFISHN I have downloaded most of that stuff already.
As there are no Delta agents here, I wouldnt concider their product as an option, as I would have no support or backup.

Invensys/TAC made an agreement with Tridium that you will never be able get a license for a native protocol. That is for field offices only. The 600 was discontinued. You use Workplace Pro to program the 500. Workplace Tech programs the MNL (notice the L after MN). You can get neither from TAC.

I did say Basics :)
What about the 500-web; do they still require Workplace pro?
What is enterprise server?

Azzad,
Any programing or control of an Invensys/TAC system is done thru Workplace Pro and Workplace Tech.
There are two sides to Invensys/TAC, one is the LON side and the next is BACnet.
With both products you need to have the mention software above in order to communicate to them.
Put your rmail in profile and will send you some information that may explain more.

Profile updated; I think.
So is it correct that the enterprise server hosts the web pages that are used to access the system and these web pages are created through work place pro. Which would mean that if I had 500-web controllers the controller can host the web pages?

Hello there, hopefully I am doing this the Wright way.
I am working on a Project that has the Invensys MNL-V2RV VAV Controllers installed. I am integrating some new Lon Controllers into the System and would like to incorporate the VAV’s. I have connected to a few of the Boxes and can see most of the variables Snvt’s however there are several that I do not understand. Does anybody have a Snvt list for this Controller?
I would like to know what nciSatconfig 1 – 8 corresponds to.
Thank You.
