Good Evening,
Gentlemen, I am not proficient with ice machines so I am asking the collective advice of the members of this forum.
Last night an antique (unknown model #) Crystal Tips Ice machine with a new compressor was not making ice. I hooked up my gauges and the low side was shooting up when powered up. When power's disconnected it drops down again. What is causing this? A blocked valve?
As far as windings, everything's ok. R-22 1 PH
Thanks.

Not sure about Crystal Tips but most ice machines when they first start go into harvest. What kind of pressures are you seeing? How long are you letting it run for?

120 on the low side right before I shut it down. 200 on the high side.

How long was it running for? Was it still in harvest ( defrost )? If it wasn't check the hot gas solenoid and see if its leaking

sounds like hot gas valve is bypassing hot gas into lowside.

Grew up around crystal tips; never saw one that started up in harvest. Hoshizaki's have always started in harvest, and some manitowocs, but not crystal tips.

The Crystal tips machine goes into harvest when the ice sensor reads cold.
I suspect that your sensor is either wired wrong or has failed. If memory serves
the circuit closes when cold to start harvest. You can use the Ranco bin control as a replacement any bin stat with three terminals.

Thanks Iceman. I haven't worked on Crystal tips, wasn't sure if it went into harvest first.
