Job Description
Position Title: Control Technician
Reports to: Energy Manager/ Director of Facilities
Summary: Requires skilled maintenance knowledge with emphasis on troubleshooting and calibration of instrumentation, electronic sensors, automation controls and building management systems. Proven knowledge in calibration of flow, temperature, pressure, humidity, control loops and processing equipment. Troubleshoot electronic, pneumatic, and DDC controls as well as build custom control systems and interfaces. Knowledge of Honeywell EBI hardware, software and HVAC systems prefered, but any state-of-the-art DDC sytem is very helpful.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential
Maintains, repairs, and calibrates all types of instrumentation and sensors with in the Zoo facility.
Keeps maintenance records of all equipment and keeps all related blueprints updated.
Must have the ability to perform troubleshooting, repair and custom design work.
Must have the ability to use DVMs, loop calibrators, Digital oscilloscopes, decade boxes, computer equipment and specialized software.
Knowledge of building HVAC systems, energy management and process controls.
Required to build custom controls and interfaces for instrumentation and Honeywell building management system.
Troubleshoot and repair fire detection systems
Desired
Works positively with department volunteers, assisting and supporting their involvement in appropriate work assignments, whenever appropriate.
Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as delegated by the Energy Manager.
Works weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. On call 24 hours a day, may be required to carry a pager. Different shift work may be required.
Must have a valid Indiana drivers license and be insurable by the Societys insurance carrier.
Must be able to safely operate a Society vehicle with a manual transmission.
Must wear uniform and proper safety equipment while on duty. Must adhere to image guidelines at all times, maintaining proper appearance while interacting in public areas while on duty.
Must have the ability to read and follow blueprints.
Must be flexible, as work order system, projects, and assignments require.
Must display a professional and positive attitude while interacting with staff and guests.

Safety and Security
Has the authority and responsibility to act immediately on issues of safety or security as it relates to our collections, our staff, our facility and our guests.
Responds to all animal security issues immediately in accordance with the Indianapolis Zoo Societys Animal Escape Policy.
Understands and supports the area Lock Protocol Procedures.
Plans and schedules all required routine inspections to insure compliance with all state, local and all other governmental regulations on rides, elevators, backflow preventers and any other regulated systems and equipment.
Coordinates with the Safety Manager to insure all written procedures comply with USDA, IOSHA, PPE and all other applicable standards.
Responsible for the implementation and completion of the Preventative Maintenance and Work Order Systems. Monitors productivity and accuracy.
Understands and enforces all safety protocols (ie, confined space, PPE, etc.)
Working Requirements:
Will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Physically required to lift heavy work which includes exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Will be working indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather. Will be in temperature ranging from -10 to 90+ degrees.
Will be working around mechanical moving parts, live electrical circuits, and exposed to dusty conditions.
Will be exposed to various solvents and cleaning solutions.
Must follow Universal Protection Precautions and Blood borne Pathogens Guidelines. Possible occupational exposure (Category A employee) to human bloodborne pathogens.
Experience/Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years working experience in system or building controls, HVAC and electronics.
Education: EET/ Technical trades degree or equivalent experience/education in appropriate field.
