I realize this is last minute, but after reading & reading, and getting multiple quotes, below is the equipment we plan to go with.....and I have some jitters. From what I'm being told, it sounds like a great plan to replace my (2) 10 year old problematic, loud, expensive to operate/repair/maintain Lennox hybrid systems that could not keep up during hot Carolina summers.
3 level, 1900 sq ft Townhome

What I have:
(2) G40UH 70,000 btu gas furnaces, Merit 10ACB18's 1.5 ton, ADP coils (which I've been told many times are builder grade garbage). Oh that's right, I already replaced one about 4 years ago.

Both systems are paired with Honeywell VisionPro 8000's (sourced myself a few years ago), though I don't think they've played nice with my current systems. One system is in the attic to heat/cool top floor, other system (pics attached) is on the 1st floor, which is obviously responsible for the first 2 levels.

Being replaced with:
1200 sq foot 1st/2nd floor system:
G60UHV-36A-070
XC14-024-230 2 ton
CX34-31A-6F
37L51

700 sq ft 3rd floor system:
G60UHV-36A-070
XC14-018-230 1.5 ton
CH33-25A-2F
37L51

...heavy gauge metal return box (externally insulated with R8 duct wrap) installed on the return side of both furnaces, and Healthy Climate filtration systems with MERV 16 filters.

They were concerned with having enough room (on the 1st floor) for the HC16's and said they'd have to rebuild the return box to fit everything. However, I've been scratching my head ever since, wondering how it will be done. Pics attached show the 1st floor closet, housing the equipment & water heater.

I would greatly appreciate any last minute advice, thumbs up (hopefully), or red flags.

There are a few ways to get er done. The filters can be mounted horizontally if needed. looks pretty cut and dry

If you watch, be prepared to pay an additional 30-50% of the installation cost.

If you offer to help, the price will double unexpectedly.

...so you're not going for the $1500 federal tax credit?

Actually I am, according to the quote as well.

I attempted to find the match up on the AHRI site for 3rd floor listed equipment, couldn't find the match that qualified. I may be missing something, just make sure to have the certificates before install occurs.

Thanks Hidalgo. I found AHRI Reference # 3131932 for 3rd floor....doesn't look it qualifies.....but thanks for basically finding the typo in the quote....should have stated 1st/2nd floor system. Glad you pointed that out!

That reference number shows a 2 ton outdoor unit (xc14-024) at a seer of 15.5 when you listed the 1 1/2 ton as the third floor equipment to be installed(xc14-018). The only listing I found to get the tax credit with the -018 is by matching it with a Lennox blower coil. (AHRI #3009829)

So it's actually the 1st/2nd floor system that qualifies (xc14-024), but I should be good to go, correct? I downloaded the cert. from the AHRI site.

Was there any testing done to check/verify proper airflow of existing system? Were load calculations performed to verify proper sizing of equipment. What is the "plan" that was discussed with you to ensure that this equipment will perform better than the existing? Good to go is a very open-ended question.

Good to go question was regarding tax credit. I want to make sure that I will qualify as discussed and per the quote.

Well, a 70,000 BTU furnace for 700sq ft should keep you pretty toasty. Did they do a load calc for the 3rd floor?

Sounds terrible, but I don't know. I was not in town/unable to be there for the consultation, but my wife says she noticed they did multiple "tests" and confirmed square footage, etc. I presume that a load calc was not done since I have not seen a copy....but maybe so?

To be honest, I had no real complaints about the previous furnaces regarding heat & winter. It's the a/c that was atrocious. I figured with the rebates and advantage of pairing the new a/c's with variable speed furnaces, I may as well take the deeper plunge. Regardless, I do not expect this agida to subside anytime soon. Hopefully the talk of electricity bill savings is not a myth. I keep hearing that with what I'm replacing, I should really see a difference.
