I am considering purchasing a new high efficiency HVAC variable speed two stage system. The space where my current HVAC system is located (in the basement) is limited in space. I was going to consider the Aprilaire 5000 until I read about the ozone concerns and decided that a Media Air Cleaner would be a better choice. The Aprilaire model 2400 and model 2200 SpaceGard cleaners are 9 1/2" inches wide. These models will not fit in the existing space with the new heater and the new returns unless I move the hot water heater over. Are there any Filter racks that are smaller, like 3" or 4" that will accept a filter that has a merv rating of 11 or 12 or should I just pay to have the hot water heater moved so that it will accomodate the Aprilaire media filters. Can I get the same filtration with a 1" filter with a Merv rating of 11 or 12 as noted in another post. Will the thickness of the Aprilaire filter work OK with a variable speed hvac system assuming that it was sized properly for my house. Any comments would be appreciated.
