My husband spoke with 2 companies regarding a new heat pump. One company is BBB rated and its website indicates it is a certified Trane dealer, while the other who wants to sell us an Amana unit (comparable) is not BBB rated, nor does its website indicate that it is an Amana dealer (only shows Lennox).

Our next step is to ask for references for recent installs of these units in our area. However, I am a little leery dealing with the company who wants to sell us the Amana. Should I be concerned and specifically what should we look for in an installer?

We are in southeastern PA if that is any help! Thanks for any advice you can offer us.

A lot of companies are not members of the BBB. That does not make them bad. As a matter of fact some companies are not worth thier weight, but are members of BBB with A plus rating. Also, the fact that they are or aren't authorzed dealers for AMANA does not mean anything really as well. I am a dealer for one brand, but sometimes put in other brands if that is what the customer wants or in a good/better/best kind of bid. References are a good idea, and ask for license and permit before work begins.

Very true.

I would also want to be shown the load calculation. Just because a company is certified doesn't always guarantee that a load calculation has been done.
