I have a 15 year old Bryant heat pump that appears to be on its last legs. Have blown the start/run capacitor 3 times in the last 5 years, so lookng at options to replace. Had 2 dealers come in (Trane and EverRest by Amana) to provide proposals. Trane dealer recommended the XLi16 while the EverRest gave me the option of the 16 or 18 SEER units. Both recommended 4 ton, 2 stage units (exisitng system is single stage 4 ton outside unit and 5 ton indoor coil). I live in the Philadelphia, PA area and house size is 1250 sq. ft first floor and 1600 second floor with 320 sq ft of 2 story space. Both dealers tell me they have the best equipment (no surprises). Trane dealer made some cursory measurements, talked alot and sat down at my kitchen table and gave me a price. The EverRest dealer walked the house, counted and measured the windows, checked the base square footage, asked about exposure (N, S, E, W) and seemed to be more thorough.
Reading some of the threads in this forum, there appears to be a large differnece of opinion as to which manufacturer has the best equipment, but one common link is that the installer is the key to a successful installation. Can somone post advantages vs. disadvantages of 1 system over the other (Compressor differences, coils, etc.)? I understand EverRest uses a Copeland scroll compressor while Trane has their own. Any thought or comments appreciated.
Thanks for your help. This is a large investment and I want to do it right.
