I've received a few quotes to replace a 20 year old system. Most of them match up but am curious what the difference is with an XV80 system that could have 2 furnance models
The 2 models are TUD080r9v4 and the 2nd one is TUD080r9v3. I can't seem to find a comparison or difference between the 2.
Thanks,

First just so there is no confusion, that is the XV80 model.
The TUD080R9V4 has a 4 ton blower. The TUD080R9V3 has a 3 ton blower. Each system can be configured to provide a number of different airflows depending on outdoor unit (and it is important that the installer does select airflow accordingly).

I assume probably either is ok if I am replacing a 2.5 ton ac unit or could a furnace and ac have different capacities?

Either blower should be fine to handle the airflow of a 2.5 ton system. It is a variable speed model which enables it to have various airflow adjustments and the capability of adjusting motor RPM to maintain that set CFM. So overall, I don't think the difference is important in your situation if you are installing a new 2.5 ton system. Yes, furnace and a/c can and will have different capacities.

what is your location?
with that furnace, you need a two stg thermostat.
what size is your existing furnace?
you need a furnace that has a three ton rated blower. I believe the three ton mdl has an overall smaller footprint than the four ton mdl.

one other thought
depending on your location, winter climate, and outside vent availability, you might look at the XV95 Trane furnace to take advantage of Fed Govt Tax Credit.
