End with:

"...And finally, I check both superheating and subcooling because charge is critical for a heat pump".

Good luck.

Can't happen in this section. You need pro membership status to discuss in detail this matter. Get your post count up to 15 and apply for pro membership.

maintenance guys get a bad rap lol.. i started in hvac then did maintenance then back to hvac/refrigeration. when the economy is slow i went to maintenance after i got laid off. apt complex love you if you've actually done the "trade"

most maintenance guys dont know anything but what bubba showed them. i hate doing this and swore i wouldn't do it but i needed a job so one interview with them and i was hired

btw if you have to ask the steps to install a heatpump or any system for that matter, you dont know and you shouldn't be doing it you'll end up breaking new equipment, hurting yourself or others and wasting alot of money

me thinky he means installing ptacs in a slide in chassis. many maint guys do that. usually there is a reason for that though. they dont properly service them, and just keep changing them with one "from the shop", which they just put a new compressor in, or did some other repair.....

Not only do they change out DX splits they don't have to be a contratctor to do it. Some loop hole in FL allows large building complex's to buy the equipment and bypass contractors all together. all they need is an epa cert and they are legal.

I think it has run down non union residential pay scale. Guess thats why i went to commercial

You should tell us step-by-step how you would install a heatpump. Maybe we can help you that way.

we service the local apt complexes funded/subsidized by the state.

they have a maintenance person and that person does more harm than good, not saying that is you.

the cost to have us come out to properly repair the unit after it has been "maintained" by them is 2 or 3 times what a maintenance contract would cost.

sometimes what looks expensive up front is cheaper in the long run!!!!

Dazzle them with math; :D

The COP for a heat pump in a heating or cooling application, with steady-state operation, is:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/9/4/a/94a00e8f5e46bafb71b55b3b24edfdd2.png

where

ΔQcool is the amount of heat extracted from a cold reservoir at temperature Tcool,
ΔQhot is the amount of heat delivered to a hot reservoir at temperature Thot,
ΔA is the compressor's dissipated work.

You can get real answers to your questions once accepted.

It does sometimes take a thick skin to hang around here. But you'll find its worth it.

Outstanding, Jack.

If he can't dazzle them with math, maybe he can show them a little cleavage?

It works for women.

Providing the correct answer won't keep you employable. Formal training( couple of years) in the trade that results with proficiency is what the interviewer is in need of. Everyone here paid their dues and made sacrifices, and still does. Trade schools and community colleges are an obvious resource and an investment in yourself can be very rewarding, unlike painting, or carpet cleaning, or......

I was on a tiraid of how the equipment replacements should be done by licensed companies. Gotta love how someplaces do thing. Wonder how much renters insurance is in Florida?

I know some maintenance guys who are as sharp as they come. they get paid really well in some cases better than techs working for hvac companies. In texas, they can work on equipment owned by the property owner they are employed by.
