I could use some info on this chiller... Any help is much appreciated. I'm new to York centrifugals; all I'm really trying to do is get familiar with the machine's ins and outs so I may speak intelligently when asked about things.

It's a YTK1C4E2CRJ with Optiview and a VSD, about 10 years old.

I think the manuals I need are 160.55-01 and 160.00-O1, but anything you guys have that pertains to it or specifically the purge would be great.

Still looking for the 160.00-O1 if anyone has that. And anything that will help me make sense of the purge system. I'm to understand it separates refrigerant from air with oil?

I've got the purge info on flash drive in my van. I'll send it to you this weekend (you may have to remind me as the beer has begun). And yeh its a combination of condensor gas sample and oil pressure. Works good as long as the chillers on line and any leaks are relatively small. If you have a decent leak during the off season it sucks.

They probably gain a little efficiency by not using a mechanical refrigeration cycle for the purge.

How does York go about maintaining a leak free shaft seal with no oil flow during shutdown periods, if at all?

On the YK's, they have stand-by lube for 10 minutes of every 24 hours of continuous shutdown. On the YT's, they just hope for the best.

Eventually the seal faces will drain and dry and pull air in during an extended shutdown period, but the length of time that it takes this to occur depends on a lot of things. I've seen them leak in after a month off-line, and I've seen a couple go better than a year and purge very little at restart. What I always did on machines that were going into a winter/extended shutdown was to install a 7-day timer and crank the oil pump 2 or 3 times a week for 5 minutes or so. That also keeps the O rings from drying out, which will cause a constant leak once restarted.

Good idea. I always just cycle pump on for that reason on extened shut down and it never dawned on me to do the timer. Although me watching it provides me the piece of mind that oil pump still works because I am the show me kind of guy.

I have 160.00 o1 and it has nothing for purge on it. if you can get # I maybe able to help. If I get a chance I will look through hard copy which is back in my office library. It always easier to thumb through hardcopy that look through multiple PDF's.
